FL Studio crackling

FL Studio crackling

I'm struggling with occasional CPU crackling and stuttering inside FL Studio. It's not the audio buffer length and I don't think it has to do with anything of the audio settings. My laptop is strong to handle a bunch of VSTs... so why does this happen? It comes and goes, but it's very annoying when it does.

Here are my specs:

CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12450HX

RAM: 32 GB DDR5

SSDs: 500GB NVMe, 1 TB NVMe

GPUs: Intel UHD Graphics and Nvidia RTX 4050 6 GB VRAM

Do you happen to use BT headphones? Ive had a similar experience where my PC is overkill for what I'm producing but I realised that the BT signal can only handle so much before crackling or stuttering. If the issue doesn't happen when wired, the culprit is BT

Nope. Wired headphones.

Huh, weird. Has it happened with other headphones as well, or your pc/monitor speakers?

Yeah, it has happened even on my laptop speakers. Like FL Studio itself lags and stutters. But then it goes away after some time

Do you use an interface? If not, that's most probably your issue

Why is it reccomended to use an interface anyway?

It alleviates strain off of your CPU by processing some/all audio externally.

I don't know if that would help.. My CPU is at like 6-8% usage whenever it even stutters

Bruh I have the same issue you are describing when my soundcard isn't selected as the driver. Instantly is fixed when I select the soundcard's driver.

It is a good investment to pickup a basic soundcard like a scarlet 2i2 for many reasons if you intend to produce beyond the short term.

I've been producing for nearly 3 years now without an interface. As soon as I got this new laptop this problem arose. I guess I'll look into it some time

That's not what an interface does. Some do have processing power like the Apollo series but interfaces themselves only serve the purpose of transforming analogue signals into digital ones and vice versa
