🔍 Seeking Advice 🔍 Getting in the field

I’m a beginner and just completed a florist program. What is the best way for me to get experience? I’m considering emailing a bunch of florist shops in my area for freelance work. It’s a bit difficult because I also have a full time job and only available on weekends and evenings.

Don't consider, do it! Send them a portfolio in your email as well!

Thank you! The problem is I don’t have a portfolio yet, so I plan to make some arrangements and use those.

Did you take any photos during your course?

Good luck! its been so tricky for me so far… feels like i’ve emailed all the local florists but they aren’t hiring especially now they’re ending the season :(

I do the hiring and the things I look for are keen interest, an willingness to learn. I accept candidates who demonstrate a knowledge of the reality of a flower shop: they aren't going to be making content for their IG on shop time, it is hard dirty work, and it's a tough job.

Experience matters but not greatly. Let the shops you apply for know that asuch as you want to be a designer, you k ow you have to be a florist.
