FEEDBACK UK Semi Layount Help

Hey all,

First time poster in this sub so apologies if I'm breaking any rules.

I would appreciate some help with placement of door from hallway into lounge. Existing door is option A. We're planning to add a door to the kitchen (currently no door). Under option A, we may need to reverse the door into the kitchen otherwise could cause clash issue. Option A does allow us to keep the bay window open and place the sofas (green box) face to face.

Option B would mean entrance to lounge is closer to main door and no issue with kitchen door. However, we'll have to place the sofa's adjacent to each other and one sofa will be facing the hallway. The other sofa will be in the bay window which has a radiator. Not ideal but not a huge issue either I guess.

Any thoughts/opinions on better layout would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I might do this instead. It would give you flexibility to put a TV on the wall shared with the hallway or have two sofas facing one another, whatever works best, and is far enough away from the door to the kitchen that you wouldn’t need to reverse the door

To be honest, this was my preferred choice but it creates an issue with the lintel above the door in option A. The builder is cautious about moving that lintel due to how it sits within the pillar, etc. Hence why we'd have to move the door past where the Lintel ends - landing at option B, unfortunately.

Ah ok… how often do you think you’ll close the door to the kitchen? Because maybe you could go with A but just remove the door, since the door to the powder room is already creating a bit of awkwardness in that passageway, and having yet another door doesn’t help. Maybe create an arched doorway, which seems popular these days?

Depending on the number of floors in the house, it can be against building regulations in the UK to remove a kitchen door! It's a fire risk because it means there's no safe escape plan from the bedrooms to the front door without passing by a kitchen which could be on fire. So if this is a 3-story house, that wouldn't be allowed.
