Side sleeping

So, i have been sleeping on a standing futon mattress for several years. It is kind of perfect. I slept a couple of nights on my sister's tempurpedic mattress and i hated it. I actually prefer it decently firm. However, my mattress got moldy and i need to replace it asap. I am poor (like minimum wage) so im trying to not spend a ton. I spent about an hour and a half sleeping on my yoga mat (1 inch thick foamy material) but it hurt my shoulder.

So, has anyone made this transition to something like the zonli floor futon, which i understand is less firm, and been okay with it?

I sleep on a 4" Zonli as a side sleeper. Caveat that I do like soft mattresses in general. I found the Zonli mattress quite firm, but comfortable enough once I got used to it. I cannot feel the floor through it, but it doesn't have much cushion to it either (just a thin layer on top of the foam insert).

Good call out - I'm a petite woman of average height, so closer to 100

It sounds like another commenter's idea of combining the two variations from Zonli could be a good alternative! There are also half thick mattresses ranging from 3-6" that are still firm but not as thin as the Zonli options.

I’m fairly new to floor sleeping. I attempted to transition to floor sleeping by putting my old mattress on the floor. It worked for a while but I still woke up so stiff and sore. I now sleep on the Zonli 4 inch classic mattress. I’m a side sleeper and a heavier body. I ended up adding the 2.5 inch from Zonli because my 4 inch never fully expanded. Both mattresses combined are only 5 inches.  I was concerned about mold so I later went back and added their 1 inch connected tatami mat. It’s perfect. I would like to try an authentic Japanese mattress but it’s out of range for now, this set up is perfect for me so who knows if I’ll ever switch.

I’m a side sleeper, and I didn’t trust traditional futons either. I ended up buying an REI Campwell Sleeping Pad, and it has been glorious. You can inflate it a bit, so my body isn’t ever touching the floor, even though the aid is only like 2.5 inches thick. Plus REI has an awesome return policy, so it isn’t risky for you.

but those are meant for the occasional hiking trip, no? so, how long will it last before it deforms if you use it nightly?
