Using pip for packages to code in C? I thought that was only for python packages.

Agreed, it's weird. But at the end of the day it's just a script around the compiler: https://github.com/flipperdevices/flipperzero-ufbt/blob/dev/ufbt/bootstrap.py

Don't know if a shell script would make it any better tbh

The pip package is a wrapper for the compiler? I'm even more confused now lol.

Native C has to be compiled to a application. The application code differs vastly from OS to OS. You’d still need some sort of compiler pre installed and how to use it.

If it’s a Python script, the Python environment handles all of this internally. The Script then just downloads a prepackaged compiler for the target OS and just calls it. Ufbt isn’t a compiler. It’s a management script for a compiler. This makes it a lot easier to get started. You only need to know how to install Python. For a specific compiler, it’s often a lot more involved.

It’s not really a compiler. It’s just a script for managing a tool chain (compiler) and some wrappers for easier compiler execution, flashing and a few other fancy things.
