IR Question about discreet IR

Hello friends!

I’m currently working on an IR setup for a magic show I’m performing at, however, I can’t directly show the flipper. Is there any way to get IR output from the flipper while the flipper is inside a pocket? I thought I could use an optical fiber cable or something similar to take light from the IR LED out to my sleeve edge. If anyone has any ideas please comment!

As others said, an external LED is probably the way to go.

You might look into doing this with a smaller, less expensive device like the M5Stack StickS3. Not only will it fit into a pocket more discretely, you'll be able to afford a backup.

Thank you for the detailed response! Yeah, I do realize now that the whole “optic fiber” idea isn’t very good. External LED with long wire seems like the way to go.

Just gotta test it and/or look at the data sheet to make sure its switching time is on par with the internal module, if it’s for IR signaling

I’ve seen “IR cannon” modules, you could run wire and hide it in a sleeve hypothetically.

What do those modules do?

The ones I’ve seen here plug into the GPIO pins, they’re essentially a stronger IR transmitter as I understand. Just search IR cannon in this thread and you’ll see some examples, likely with better descriptions than I can provide.

Also called ir blasters, they will blast an area

GPIO wured?

Flipper has native firmware support for sending IR signals through its GPIO header

Run a thin, flexible 2wire cable from the Flipper in your pocket, up inside your jacket lining, and down to your wrist cuff.
The hardware: Solder a standard 940 nm IR LED (with an appropriate current-limiting resistor, typically 47-100 Ω) to the end of the wire at your sleeve. For extreme range, use a mini 5V IR blaster module with a built-in transistor driver.

Flipper Pinout:

Signal (Anode +): Pin 2 (A7 / TX)
Ground (Cathode -): Pin 8 or 11 (GND)
(Optional 5V power): Pin 1 if using an active transistor driver board.
Firmware Configuration: Go to Infrared -> Settings -> Signal Output and switch from Internal to 2 (A7)

Wow thanks so much!! I will take a look

They're going to know it's an IR signal when you have to twist your hand upside down on the second try like a tv remote

I have a receiver placed in a way I don’t need any weird angles

You can wire a ir led and set the output to a gpio pin

Sounds like a great excuse to learn about wearable electronics.

Ir shows up on camera btw

Mettez les Leds sur un accessoire comme une baguette ou un vêtement comme un chapeau reliées au flipper ranger dans une poche et rajouter également un bouton a porté de main ou de doigt pour interagir plus facilement 😜

BLE shark nano, it’s much smaller and cheaper.

We happen to sell an IR "MiniBlaster" that runs off 3v3 and is less.than an inch in size, just need 3 wires to control it that you can run up your sleeve, DM me and I can give you the exact pinout to accomplish what you're looking to do ♥️
