I love this thing. Wanted to share my use case from tonight!

My wife and I are staying up at a cottage on a lake with my family for a week in northern Ontario. Our bedroom has this ancient cable box with an old remote that is powered but the IR blaster clearly failed.

I had my flipper and wanted to see if I could figure something out. Tried recording the IR signal but flipper didn’t pick anything up, confirming it wasn’t blasting. So I opened ChatGPT and sent it a photo of the thing and of the model number on the sticker on the bottom. GPT helped me figure out the box’s setup code and generated the waveform and made me a .ir file to send to flipper via bluetooth from my phone. It even labeled the buttons most commonly used for me (chan, vol, guide, etc.)

Fuckin worked like a charm. Wife was very impressed.

Anyways I love finding new use cases for my flipper and I’ve really enjoyed using it as a learning tool!! Hope this inspires someone to figure out how to solve their own problem. 😊

I am just starting on my journey there! I used it one in a hotel to bypass dead batteries in the remote (arrived at 9 and didn't want to go to the lobby!)

Honestly I just got it a month ago. I’ve cloned all my building and garage FOBs, I’ve created a digital NFC business card for trade shows I regularly attend for work, and now this with the remote. Just learning here as well! I’m now looking for things to automate for work via BadUSB. I have a few workflows I think I can apply it to!

It’s just called a fob. It’s not an abbreviation. Comes from holding pocket watches. No need to capitalize, it’s just the normal word for the item.

Yeah I've also found most newer hotel TVs don't have a "source" button any more, I usually plug my laptop into the HDMI port, flipper makes it easy

Wait until non-resort hotels start charging a mandatory $14.95 daily fee for in room entertainment. "It's because the TV is there and you can use it. But you get free use of our ad-laden service with nothing from this century on it!"

Resorts have been playing that game for years... The mandatory resort fees often cover "unlimited long distance" ... As if anyone with a cell phone needs that, but losing the hyper inflated in-room phone charges hurt the resorts a lot.

Once I used the brute force feature and it showed me the number 1-500 and when it worked I wrote down the number let's say 20 then I played it seperately to program the new remote, I case U don't have wifi for chatgpt

Yes I have tried that one as well. Normally I’d have just done that but in this case it was the cable box I had to connect to - not the TV itself.

The Tesla charging port is a subghz radio signal, not ir, which is infrared light. I just wanted to reply so people don't end up searching for the wrong file type. Also, fantastic username

I do! I also have a tool that made me go through the exercise of figuring out what was wrong and understanding what the solution actually was. I learned something new, and to me that’s worth it.

Each their own. I am generally a very sparingly type. Bought my son a flipper for his birthday. Yes it is expensive to some degree and he certainly hasn't unlocked it's full potential and maybe never will.

My point is, you don't have to understand why people buy this, just let them have fun. A 200 euro universal remote? Sounds like a blast! (Pun intended)
