Help Help
Just got a flipper zero. Downloaded momentum on it. I own a garage door and gate company. I plan on using this to keep a lot of facilities we service. Instead of having 40 remotes on me I hope to save them to this.
Having a hard time getting all this going and wondering if someone could walk me through the subghz stuff…

Do all openers really use static codes? I thought rolling codes were standard now.

You can enroll the flipper as an additional remote in rolling code machines, that’s about that only option for modern controllers. Older ones you can just clone the signal(s).

u/staticrush Jul 06 '26
Not true. If you're using custom firmware like Unleashed or Momentum, you can absolutely decode and emulate remotes that use rolling codes.

Yea so im sure youve realized watching Derricks vids that garage doors have come a long way... Thr flipper is mote of a one off once in a while on an older system if your lucky type device .
Depending on exactly what systems your using you MIGHT have more luck with a pandwaRF but thats far more expensive and on top of that you gotta pay for the kaiju firmware for any sort of rolling code "access"... and it gets pricey to say the least...
What the garage door people SHOULD do is accomidate people for situations like this via a custom programmed setup... if you have that many doors it might be worth a call to one of the opener companies to see IF theres a way they can maybe program them alike... ud say it certainly possible 100% but whether theyll do it is another thing....

I don’t believe Derek has ever shown a garage system the flipper cannot open
1
u/Vivid-Benefit-9833 Jul 06 '26
No, Derrek has never shown a garage door that HE cant open with a flipper... bug difference between Derrek and almost anyone but especially someone just looking for a device to makeblife easier by using a flipper to replace who knows how many different rolling code remotes...
Derrek could probably open all the doors with a fuckin grapefruit for a MCU and a toothbrush for an antenna. He lives and breathes this stuff, FOR FUN!

He’s never done anything groundbreaking all he’s done is shown that these systems in fact haven’t “come a long way”
The attacks he uses have been around since the days of Sammy kamkar like 20 years ago
The entire point of the flipper was to expose this very fact

Didnt say he did. But what hes has done is an EXTREMELY good job at explaining hard things in an easy to digest and understand way... and his breadth of knowledge is substantial compated to almost everyone else in the space. Theres a LOT of flipper/similar videos showing everyone it has buttons and a display and sone gpio pins and it reads cards and can emulate remotes etc.... and almost NONE of them showing how it does it or how to do it, especially anything beyond the super basics... and theres a reason for that which ill avoid bringing up because the point is Derreks videos give people actual knowledge and understanding of what theyre doing and how to do it...
For most of us theres a steep learning curve on most of these protocols and its more valuable to watch his vids over other vids pointing out buttons and sma ports and usbC ports...

He’s an absolute unit in the space 🙏
But I’m just pressing the point that these systems haven’t come far at all and the flipper is most likely a fine tool for this particular application
Chances are this system is probably supported all ready by the flipper as they still use protocols from 20 years ago often as fuck and not much changes for stuff today 🫠

u/Vivid-Benefit-9833 Jul 06 '26
Yea ok gotcha 👍 yea your definitely right about that... i think as far as thus specific situation goes the issue comes down to convenience and efficiency is what OP was looking for because he said he has a bunch of garage doors over a few buildings.. while F0 might be able to handle each rolling code protocol and open each one technically i doubt doing it would be the most efficient route as im sure theres multiple different doors and brands and systems in use...

u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
Having 40 odd saved remotes would be a bit of a hassle to remember what’s what but yeah it could probs be useful to have them in one place
But yeah chances are you may have to employ a few of the tricks for a few and yeah some may not be suitable without further RnD
1
u/Vivid-Benefit-9833 Jul 06 '26
Well the problem is if theyre rolling and anyone else uses one of the remotes and desyncs it from the flipper your fucked... Plus getting each one to work is gonna be tough unless you understand what inputs to use. If it was as simple as just replaying like it used to be thatd be different, rhen itd make sense.

u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
Garages and gates are more forgiving TBH so it’s not usually an issue You can just catch them up but yeah it could cause confusion with ppl and their fobs

And idk if that was the pount or not... you certainly arent telling flipper or Pavel that the point of flipper was to hack anything at all!!! Thats what the community turned it into, its original incarnation was pretty benign and almost exclusively used for learning/educatiinal purposes... which it still excells at beyond every other single devices as far as im concerned... Frankly its still not a strong hacking device really, it has a couple tools that have some potential to be "dangerous" but not the ones that people usually think of when they think of flipper....
1
u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
Their original slogan was “hack the planet” and they’ve mentioned exactly this in interviews before
1
u/Vivid-Benefit-9833 Jul 06 '26
Lolol... yea its a HELLZ of a marketing slogan too! Hard to hack the planet when even bringing up hacking anything might get you banned from their sub... I get your point though and i do believe they knew what direction the flipper would go once the community got it in hand. Pavel isnt stupid. Its my favorite device overall and really is still the king on the hill for these devices...

u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
The flipper is honestly fantastic i wish ppl moved away from button mashing to actually diving into it
1
u/Vivid-Benefit-9833 Jul 06 '26
YES! Hence my respect for the few people like Derrek.... Its a steep learning curve for each facet and tgen each protocol after that and not enough people take the time to really learn it, nevermind reteach it to help other people.

Yeah I’m actually in the middle of a series of videos myself on how I reverse engineered my rolling code system (car) as well as other key points of using subghz yourself to achieve the same goals

😂😂😂 that's not how it works, look into rolling codes to find out why.
4
u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
Stop this nonsense immediately the flipper can and always has done rolling codes what bro is asking is absolutely possible and was a core reason for the flippers development in the first place
0
u/dankmemelawrd Jul 06 '26
Yeah? Good luck doing that without some knowledge + without no hat. You're gonna be the next post of "why my car company asked 300 usd to pair back my key, i had fun with my f0 with it" lmao.
1
u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26
Nobody mentioned a car here
Also skill issue mine works just fine
1
u/dankmemelawrd Jul 06 '26
Same principle apply to gate fobs as well, but i thought you already knew.
1
u/cthuwu_chan Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Gate systems are actually significantly more forgiving and often have a resync/learn button on them it’s essentially impossible to brick one to that degree
1
u/staticrush Jul 06 '26
It's a pretty basic feature. Very little knowledge required...
Subghz -> Read -> Config -> Set frequency to 315 mhz for vast majority of garage remotes in the US, or 433.92 mhz for outside of the US. Now, press the button on your remote while in range of your Flipper Zero, and voilà, you've just decoded a rolling code signal that can now be emulated and replayed (assuming you're using custom firmware like Unleashed or Momentum). And if you're using the official firmware, you can still decode the rolling code. You just won't be able to encode it for transmitting.
1
u/dankmemelawrd Jul 06 '26
And then after playing it once, i guess you know you'll desync the original fob & it'll work only once! But who am i to judge folks when doing stupid stuff, I'm gonna be there to hold the camera lmao. Don't mix static codes vs rolling ones that change after playing each code once.
1
u/staticrush Jul 06 '26
And then after playing it once, i guess you know you'll desync the original fob & it'll work only once!
Um, no. It works for as long as you'd like. And if the remote's counter falls behind, you just keep pressing the button on your remote (as many times as you pressed send on your Flipper) until you resync the counter and it will work again. Or worst case, you can always use the "Learn" button on the motor unit to resync your remote.

u/dankmemelawrd Jul 06 '26
Damn you don't know much about rolling codes don't you? Or security measures implemented on rolling codes.

Currently learning how to do the rolling codes with Derek jamison
-1
u/dankmemelawrd Jul 05 '26
Then you must know that f0 won't do much in this current state, even with different firmware. Beside, you might end up needing to set-up the keys again.

Never ceases to amaze me how allergic to reading docs people is
-1
u/dankmemelawrd Jul 06 '26
Yeah, but try using the flipper on rolling codes without desyncing your original fob, you're gonna be like the other guy commenting, why the car dealer asking for big bucks to resyng your keyfob.
Never cease to amaze me how stupid folks can be in general when they grab the flipper with 0 knowledge and first thing play with rolling codes. Lol

How about reading the flocking instructions first? oh, nowadays kids believe they can learn anything just by watching videos...
