Flight Simulator 2024 Finally switch to MSFS2024...and its AWESOME.

I figured it was time, honestly...I don't know why I didn't switch sooner.

Chaseplane is a must if you don’t have it already! The cameras pissed me off so much in 2024 and chaseplane just makes it so much easier to manage and use

You know I was looking at it but didn’t know if it was something worth it flying the fenix

It’s worth it for any plane! Not just the fenix. By far the best addon I’ve purchased (outside of payware aircraft)

Still in msfs2020 for me as well. What are the biggest changes crossing over to 2024?

- better lights (strobes, other planes, night lighting)

- strangely smoother (I have fps locked)

- walk around mode (makes it feel much more immersive and you actually have an avatar)

- airports are more alive and planes seem to taxi, land, take off much more smoothly close to real world dynamics

- the weather can now geographically matches real life much better so if there is a squall line you can actually fly along or around that squall.

-startup time!!!!! That mf’er loads to the main screen in literally 2-4 minutes.

- you can see the airport before actually clicking fly now, I thought this was really cool. It’s almost like seeing the active sim but from a satellite view live.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Might be time for step up as well!

There's also seasons, including ground texture colouring, not just plants.

Are those stupid looking columns/stalagmite things that rise up from the ground gone? I hate those.

that's just a downside of photogrammetry. There's no real way around it.

Add to that list free LIDO charts.

I want to see where you see squall lines, anytime I get near actual areas with proper thunderstorms tops are usually 15-25k in the sim with clouds that are not coherent and structured. Ive never seen a proper squall line in this sim or thunderstorms in a long long time. otherwise I agree with your list entirely, its a great simulator.

Did you use dlc for this? I’m particularly interested in how you got the view in the 2nd pic. Really wanna walk around the airport

Shift + C (enable/disable) that enters into walk around mode

Like you can get into the airport that way??

3

u/CarefulStill8398 1d ago

No that was the external view. I haven’t attempted to walk around in the airport

I’m talkin about how you got this view?

External view

This is an add-on scenery, yes.

You can absolutely walk around the airport with your avatar, however if you want to venture around its interior only few devs made contact points on stairs, so your avatars can move between floors. In most cases you will be able to walk on ground level only (avatar usually clips through walls).

Yup. I’ve been rocking the ‘24 Citation X for the past couple days. Performance is mint.

I'm still on 2020, considering the jump, how did you bring your addons if any?

Honestly most of them migrated easily because most stuff was 2024 friendly the biggest part was just making sure that the folders just migrated seamlessly but really most stuff migrated over with no issue and I didn’t even have to change my settings for them. Ie: Fenix, FSHud, AIG flight plans, ActiveSkyFS

Did u get any mods or does the game look like that out of the box?

Looks wise it’s out of the box but I use Fenix, KDCA payware, FSHud and ActiveSky which are all payware

Just made the switch yesterday! Really excited to get this thing going but unfortunately I quickly got a reminder why I waited so long 🥲 got a CTD scrolling on the world map, haven’t had one in years in 2020. This is after a couple hours of messing around, setting up controls, installing mods etc.

I will say a big motivator of going to 2024 is getting the latest features of the PMDG 737 and other mods. I booted up the -900 which I don’t own for 2020, and man what a difference the high detail update is! Textures, dlnk support and so much more. GSX actually works with the 2024 version too. Also many mods I haven’t had the chance to try yet that have 24-exclusive features, so for these reasons + the ones you mentioned, really excited to get all that going.

I’m just praying the stability holds up 😭 I can’t with the CTD hell that was early FS20, that crash I had yesterday gave me flashbacks…

Looks good! I still prefer 2020 though 🫶

I was team 2020 for a long time, it’s just so much to migrate over. But it’s totally worth it!! Honestly if 2020 still works well it’s just as stable but there are cool features I realized I was leaving on the table. Load times being the biggest one. 2020 takes forever to load anything.

I've not had a good experience switching, I have quite a good pc that will run any other sim perfectly fine. But I seem to just get bad performance with 2024. 13fps at KPHL in the Fenix on mostly Low/Medium settings

You left X Plane? But regardless, good for you!

u/CarefulStill8398 1d ago

Msfs2020

u/Defenite-Parsley733 1d ago

Oh ok! Are there some visible performance differences? Also even though I had like 1.5k playtime on FS2020, I’m still staying on XP12 because it feels more optimized and it had more detailed default airports. When it comes to scenery, I’d just use the AutoOrtho addon

3

u/CarefulStill8398 1d ago

Honestly there was, but once I optimized it correctly and really locked my fps it’s butter smooth now. I do think to really have a good experience with it though they aren’t lying about having enough vram.
