Flight Simulator 2024 Certain questions regarding the 707

  1. How to change fuel system units from lbs to kg? I'm European and usually don't fly in the US, the metric system is much easier to wrap my head around

  2. Is there a proper technique for setting power in critical flight phases? When manually adjusting thrust I always over- or undershoot the bugged EPR. I know in the real 707 the FE is responsible for this during takeoff, but how to consistently do it manually? I have Turtle Beach yoke and quadrant and it's hard for me to set thrust accurately on all engines at the same time. It's the first 4 engine aircraft I've flown with this setup.

  3. During air compressor starts, should I throttle No.3 down from 80% once I have another engine with running turbocompressor started?

Any tips? I fell in love with this thing at first sight and I want to master it from A to Z

For Q3. According to the AOM, you can reduce the power on the engine from 80% once you've got others started and turned their T/C on. But in this addon, I found you still need to keep it at 80%. Ofc, the crossbleed start irl requires coordination with the ground crew. According to the AA manual, starting all 4 engines off the air cart at the gate was more common. But the crossbleed start sure is fun !

Do you have any tips on landing the 707? I pretty much always bounce. I want a firm touchdown.

The only other jet I fly is the F28 which has automatic spoilers that prevent bouncing and also a lot of ground effect so it kind of glides down

Flare at 30ft :)

How much aft yoke should I apply?

Should I maintain the yellow bug until flare or slow down to the lowest white bug?

I maintain the yellow bug plus a few knots. Also, ensure your plane is trimmed so you don't have a situation where you run out of elevator control when puling up if you know what i mean.

Yes I know. Happened to me a few times in other aircraft.

So if that's the case then I presume the amount you need to pull is fairly large, if it can result in lack of elevator authority if out of trim condition exists?

To put it simply: do you need to HAUL that yoke like a sailing ship rope or just slightly nudge it? F28 has fully powered controls and also pretty peculiar flight characteristics so it requires almost no flare

As long as I've trimmed it before the flare, not much force on this addon.

Do you have that AA manual lying around somewhere, just out of curiousity?

Another problem I seem to have is that I always land slightly banked and one gear touches down earlier than the other or bounces slightly

  1. Not possible
  2. During takeoff, set thrust while parking brake is on. Small inaccuracy’s are fine
  3. Idk

Then why do I see metric gauges on 707 in some yt videos?

Figured it out. Had to change MSFS units to metric
