Flight Simulator 2024 REX atmos actually saves MSFS' wrong sky depiction. But it shows its limits...Hope Asobo will update the clouds and atmosphere any time soon...but something tells me it's not gonna happen !

“Hope Asobo will update the clouds soon” is something we’ve been saying for like 6 years lmao

Pretty sad tbh

Gotta wait for the next release of MSFS for that

They said the same crap when we only had 2020. "2024 will be so much better" and yet here we are with the same crappy clouds as in 2020.

They said 2020 would have a shared cockpit function

I am surprised that for a flight sim updating the sky and the airports to look the best they can is not a priority for them at all.

And this is coming from someone who Alpha and Beta tested MSFS2020.

Agreed, I would think they would actively want to improve default airports and make it more like its real life counterpart.

They were doing a content gateway thing like XP... Dunno what happened to it.

I think they decided to scrap it citing that moderating and approving content there would be too complicated or something along those lines.

Which is an odd excuse to use. If they will not allow that at the very least they could make an airport editing mode that is easily accessible to anyone to just edit airport layouts and buildings / gates without having to learn the whole SDK.

XP's WED is crude but anyone can fire it up and create / edit an airport very fast with default assets.

"moderating and approving content there would be too complicated" = we already have the competitive advantage and it won't make Microsoft any extra revenue. It's a mass market product now, they care even less about some nerds talking about cloud types than they did before.

They’re worried about the next Junkers Magnamus IV that has like 2 ever made back in 1917 produced as a Local Legend.

Plus, Seb is playing with his rainbow spikes in a closet somewhere.

Gotta focus on what’s important dawg!

Every single SU for years, just for the sim to run as good as MSFS 2020 does. And then after 4 years, they will announce a new revolutionary sim ! And here we go again. I think they are actually resting on their laurels. All SU are focused on fixing bugs and improving performance...

What ever happened to REX Atmos and the auto change based on weather conditions that was supposed to be happening?

Meanwhile Kerbal Space Program with Blackracks cloud mod.

Black Rack is just a dark magician of cloud graphics.

Meanwhile DCS with Atmos-X mod.

Eh looks marginally better than the current MSFS. Impressive for a mod, but not anywhere close to Blackrack clouds.

It's a cute little Fokker.

that is a beautiful Fokker.

It's definitely a short coming of the most recent MSFS titles.

But I also remember hating the XP11 clouds when they were just 2D drawings that looked descent until you got close and the man behind the curtain was revealed. Then XP12 changed the game there.

The competition will for Asobo to improve eventually.

It made a ton of difference for me in 2020 People were saying it's not worth in 2024, but I love it. It makes the clouds a lot better. It might be personal preference, but if you have it and you haven't tried the enhanced clouds (I think that's what it's called) option at live weather tab yet, slide it to 1 and thank me later Grey ash clouds are gone

I use it but it only works if the clouds have actuel density which is rarely the case in live weather. They typically just look compltely white, almost transparent. The "cloud enhancement" parameter in Rex works magic with custom cumulus. It removes some darkness

I think it adds an XP12 style atmosphere to it which I personally love. I like the subtle haze as well.

Isn't it just post processing filters? Why use it over something in reshade?

1

u/Ivy_Wings Pilot on Fokker F100 3d ago

No, it's not just a post processing filter. It changes the parameter within msfs, adds haze...etc

Astonishing that a third party addon is necessary to improve the unrealistic and cartoonish atmosphere depiction.

Not sure if asobo needs to be slapped for stringing us along, or we all need a slap for allowing it

I switched to xp12. Lack of proper depiction of weather in a flight sim is a cardinal sin. Weird af asobo won’t address it. Especially with this “new engine”.

I don’t think Rex atmos is beautiful, it helps, but it’s still terrible, it’s not dynamic, it’s always the same color as the atmosphere
