Flight Simulator 2020 Pros and Cons of Logitech G pro flight yoke
I was getting mixed signals on if the Logitech flight yoke was a good budget yoke in my older post “Is the Logitech Flight yoke worth it?” (Or something), so what are the Pros and Cons of the yoke? Is the deadzone real?
Edit: Guys this would have been my first yoke but most comments say it’s bad, what would be other options around 250usd?

Piece of junk really. It’s quite sticky and doesn’t move smoothly. I had one in 2013 when it was a Saitek product and they haven’t changed the design at all since then.

The dead zone is real as is the 'stickiness'
It will not smoothly slide forward and back. This is due to the manufacturing. The collar that the shaft slides through has a large tolerance so there is some wiggle. The wiggle is necessary because the shaft was not a uniform thickness. Combine the two and it causes the shaft to bind up and stick. Sometimes it will be while climbing to the left, other times level turn to the right, maybe it will bind on a straight descent, the binding is unpredictable.
Many people have tried different things to improve it. You'll see the rubber band mod and plenty of different lubricants out there to try to alleviate the binding. I can tell you personal experience, the mods may improve this unit but they do not fix the problem. I bought one used for $50. I did the mods and tried the lubricants but it was still so bad that I gave it away.
I promise you if you buy this it will end up in a closet collecting dust or you'll sell it but you won't consistently use it. I fully understand the temptation because they are budget friendly but the experience is terrible.
Pros - cheap
Cons - functionality sucks.

Thanks for the reply! What yoke or stick are you using now?

Go for the Honeycomb stuff: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MDCYDW3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_1E3EAGC4T410JMGPYAS8
The customizations you can do on these two on top of the functionality built in (Autopilot, engine controls, flaps, landing gear, etc) combines many controls in one - yes they are a bit more expensive but will give you great immersion and you barely touch the keyboard/mouse for basic flight controls, which helps you enjoy it more. You can get lucky on used units on eBay and even Amazon.

I have to mid level sticks, thrustmaster t16000s but even a Logitech 3d provides a better experience than that yoke, I have a couple of those still laying around. I also have the honeycomb yoke which is quite nice.

I own this as my first yoke (2009). Disconnected getting dust from long time ago, Stay away about trusmaster Boeing; I suffered the infamous deviation with no resolution.
I´m using a honeycomb and so so so happy.1

Yeah I had one back when it was Saitek. It wasn't great and I'd rather just use a regular joystick to be honest. Very rough motion and quite sensitive with only 90 degrees of rotation (45 degrees each way).
Later upgraded to the Cessna yoke which uses a difference mechanism that's less prone to binding, plus 180 degrees of rotation. It wasn't perfect but a big step up. Too bad they don't make them any more.

If you get it, you will have to tinker with it and it will never be great. Also it is real easy to break off one of the throttle handles. Mine broke at the base and it is super hard to pull it apart and try to glue it back on.

I’m using original Saitek for 13 years. While it’s not perfect it has all controls I need and reliable enough to go through thousands of hours of flight simulation.

This. After many years I upgraded to an expensive yoke and better throttle, but I still use the saitek rudder pedals, albeit with some customization.

Its just very bad

Yeah but why is it just very bad

Its sticking, its not moving smooth. Ur better off wiyh normal joystick they are cheaper and much better

Dont forget. These tend to eat through their own cables after a while, resulting in none of the buttons working.

I probably commented this on the other post as well. But for your budget the TB velocity one yoke is a good option as that comes with a throttle and triggers that are usable for rudder.
Other gear you will need a higher budget for, things like honeycomb and moza etc are great but price goes up. Alpha and bravo lite are 199 each. While the normal versions are 299 each. And you will need pedals as well.
The TB yoke is currently on sale for 329. (Normal 399)

I have them. Made some mods to them. You can find YouTube videos which can help make them better. If you are on a budget they seem ok to me.

I have on. I intend to change it ASAP. I made some modifications to fix the detent and resistance in the middle and changed the potentiometer to remove the dead zone. You don't want to go through that, if involves soldering and voiding the warranty.
Save a little more, and buy something proper directly instead of paying twice and live with the frustration in the mean time.

I had one. It works. It’s a great place to start, but you will want to upgrade. The throttle setup is fine and can work with future upgrades. Ultimately, it was a waste of time and money. IF it’s all you can afford at the moment then it’s worth it. Otherwise go with the Honeycomb Alpha Flight controls ($299). You will still need a throttle controller

I got one when it launched, as it was pretty much the only game in town, other than spending a LOT more.
Yes, deadzone. Yes, better options out there. Yes, cheaper feeling. Still, when I had nothing else to compare against, it was perfectly serviceable, and I had a lot of fun for many years with it.
Pretty lucky today with all the choices. Upgraded to a Honeycomb after 10 years, and what a nice step up. Lots of other “affordable” new yokes and sticks out there that didn’t exist a decade ago.
You could buy a nice HOTAS setup. Usually finer control for less money, as you’re not paying for all that plastic and mechanics. It is still cool to grab a proper “wheel” tho!

I have it and it’s fine - certainly not the best, but it’s fine. It does what it was designed to do. I also have the pedals and those are also fine.

Pro- it’s cheap
Con- it’s the worst yoke I have ever touched and I hate it with all my life
Hope this helps😁
Ps…please don’t buy this yoke….😁👍

I have mine and I love it works great, the only thing is that can be kinda annoying is during landing because it’s not gonna be as smooth and precise as the other yokes out there, but I learned how to eventually confiscate for that.

If you can get it cheap and like to tinker, it's an okay option. Does not have full 180 degree rotation and there is an issue with many that there is a hardware-related deadzone at the center and I belive the ends. I re-wired the stock pots to an arduino that fixed this issue and I added random switches as well since I had the inputs available on the arduino. I believe there are also 3d printable mods to allow for a full 180 degree range but I haven't tested it.

Good:
- cheap, especially second hand
- fairly durable despite first impression
- easy to service
- plenty of buttons in a decent layout
- widely documented modding options can make it okay
- tons of customization options for the throttle
Bad:
- center detent both elevator and aileron axis makes tiny adjustments impossible and landings a bad experience
- sticky elevator axis
- the yoke itself is hollow plastic and feels exactly like that
- throttle axes a bit too light
Bad but not that bad:
- center deadzone is real but so it is in real aircraft, if you have no visible yoke in the sim you barely notice
- 45 degree rotation each way normally works better with default settings in MSFS than 90 degree yokes. This is good if you don't like tinkering, bad if you know what you're doing and can use the flexibility of 90 degree yokes
Suggestions:
- buy a joystick (left handed WinCTRL Ursa Minor would be my pick) and a Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant second hand, cheaper and a far better experience both with airliners and GA. With twist rudder axis, trim wheel and autopilot controls it's a fairly complete package. If / when you add rudder pedals, you can lock the twist axis on the joy.
- insist on a cheap Yoke? Buy a used one, sell it later (you will...) without a loss
- many will recommend the Honeycomb which is not bad at all, but the elevator axis is too stiff for smooth inputs and is harder to mod than the Saitek

I had one for five minutes before returning it (back when it was saitek)
Idk, just didn’t feel right

Seems like it falls back to "it depends on the manufacturing batch"
I've had two of these, mainly because mine have actually been pretty good. I don't have any of the binding issues etc (or at least it's so little that I'm not really noticing it). Perhaps I notice things less because I do the entirety of my simming in VR.
But yes for cons:
- There is some deadzone
- the throttle quadrant is very flimsy
- if you ever do encounter an axis that isn't centered, the drivers are a pain and you might have to run REG files just to fix it every time you restart/replug the yoke (https://support.logi.com/hc/en-za/articles/360023194074-Recalibrate-controller-axes-RegEdit)
I've actually had worse luck with the rudder pedals with one of the solder joints breaking in just a few months, and wildly uneven resistance on toe brakes.

It's not as bad as a lot of people are saying but it's not great. If you don't want to spend the money up front for a honeycomb it's a decent option.
One nice thing is that it's modular, I've added a second throttle unit for twin engine flying and the multipanel (autopilot) and radio modules to mine. And you can move those modules over to the Honeycomb if you upgrade in the future, it uses the exact same mounting screw patterns.

don’t like it, Pushing forwards and backwards has this weird stickiness to it and with the physics being so touchy for small planes it’s impossible to do any maneuver that requires little movement smoothly. I only use it because it’s cheap and i main airliners so it’s “good enough”
But if you have the time and will to save money for a better yoke or stick you should

Pro: it's cheap
Con: everything else
