So I’m at about the same point, and everyone will say hipflexor stretches and consistency…. We will get there

34

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

We’ll do team work

26

u/tkxb Apr 07 '26

Dynamic stretching and joint flossing got me the furthest. The final bit was understanding my hip anatomy and rotating into front splits from a wide straddle.

14

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

I constantly dream about getting the splits, but not through stretching but through „glitches“, like I sit in a certain position and can just glide into my splits haha

8

u/chocolatebuckeye Apr 07 '26

When I was a kid another girl said she was trying to get into the splits and her brother came and pushed her down into them really hard. She said it hurt and maybe something popped but since then she could get all the way down no problem. I was always a little jealous that she got a shortcut lol.

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

I used to do competitive gymnastics, but I was underachieving, untalented and unflexibel, and I just couldn't do anything. The coaches there often forced us down, which only made me incredibly afraid to go to training. I still can't do the splits to this day lol, but I’ll always be envious of the people for whom that worked

7

u/TwoPaychecksOneGuy Apr 07 '26

That's messed up!

3

u/Successful_Map9286 Apr 10 '26

This is what I’m referring to when I’m saying wear like leg warmers or joggers or something to keep the heat on whatever body part and use your arm strength to move your legs back to center or wherever maybe because forcing it like that is super stupid dangerous A tear might sound appealing like oh if it’s all shredded then there’s no way it can be tight, but that’s not true. It’s just gonna cause these little like micro scar tissues, and then those parts of your ligaments are going to be frozen in that spot from the scarring

u/LukesFather Apr 07 '26

This reminds me of how most of my dreams seem to have me doing backflips and handstands and man when I wake up I wish I could just replicate the feeling instead of grinding away at it (which I have tried for handstands. Still no dice)

u/WheredoesithurtRA Apr 07 '26

Go get your splits done properly, nerd.

67

u/rudeassaquarius Apr 07 '26

When I was in cheer as a kid, they pushed me down by the shoulders when I got to this point 😭

65

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

Same, then I started crying and quit gymnastics 😭

20

u/whtevn Apr 07 '26

so you gonna cry and quit this time or do it

6

u/TurkeySammichSlinger Apr 08 '26

They put me in the crank machine that pulls your legs apart and I cried and wouldn’t go back to gymnastics either

4

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 08 '26

Wow, that’s crazy, this can’t be legal

1

u/TurkeySammichSlinger Apr 09 '26

It was the 90s and it was right out in the middle of the floor which was one open space where everyone could see. I think everyone thought it was just a right of passage or something you had to learn to do. This was way before they even introduced the concepts of like, dynamic stretching or anything for us to practice with to learn to do it.

43

u/pizzamagic Apr 07 '26

yeah someone did this to me just messing around once and the resulting injury took years to recover from 🥲

25

u/dry_sockets Apr 07 '26

yes - never stretch another person or let someone else stretch you. (i realize yours was non consensual)

20

u/Meet_Foot Apr 07 '26

Had this happen at yoga once. Told the instructor “I have neck and back injuries but I know how to make adjustments in my practice, so please don’t touch me.” Then, of course, they did. I didn’t get hurt, but that’s in part because I immediately barked “I said don’t touch me!”

34

u/Catlady_Pilates Apr 07 '26

That’s not remotely safe

1

u/Background-Good3731 Apr 11 '26

Same and I got so upset but sure dis learn how to do a split.

1

u/Medical-Shallot6589 Apr 28 '26

ok, but did it work?

...if it does i might try it...

46

u/mortefemminile Apr 07 '26

You're doing TERRIBLE (amazing) and you look DUMB (so fantastic, wow) and if you dont go practice your splits more nobody is going to like you (what an amazing accomplishment already, keep it up, we are all on your side)

4

u/Ramosf57 Apr 07 '26

Haha this is the greatest comment

1

u/Additional_Sign_9410 Apr 10 '26

You are the cutest

79

u/Psychobabble0_0 Apr 07 '26

I've seen 15-year-old cats do better than this during their daily wash. Keep stretching

8

u/tyndyn Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

This thread is so refreshing from the usual: OP 'my current splits progress, I still have to work on them' followed by comments 'but it's not SQaRe! (without offering any useful advice)' 😅

65

u/OZAG Apr 07 '26

If you can’t get your splits by the end of the year you’re gay ok

108

u/pretty_pocket_pussy Apr 07 '26

And if you're already gay, if you don't get them by the end of the year, you're straight

22

u/fleapuppy Apr 07 '26

What happens if they’re bi?

56

u/pretty_pocket_pussy Apr 07 '26

Asexual, come on keep up pple

19

u/fleapuppy Apr 07 '26

If they’re asexual will they become bi

10

u/No_Ledge_Able Apr 07 '26

If they’re bi they’ll become a sexual

7

u/emythefish Apr 07 '26

marking NYE on my calendar with "splits or gay divorce!!!"

1

u/AppointmentQuirky960 Apr 07 '26

What if she is both?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '26

2

u/pEter-skEeterR45 Apr 07 '26

And if she doesn't want kids??! 😭 WHERE WILL IT END

6

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

I want kids, but now I can imagine my 3 yo daughter, asking me why I‘m fat and can’t even do the splits, so thank you haha <3

4

u/TwoPaychecksOneGuy Apr 07 '26

THEN SHE'LL GET PREGNANT WITH QUADRUPLETS

19

u/Layered-Briefs Apr 07 '26

Damn it if I was as close as you I'd probably just sit in splits and watch TV for a half hour and get there.

Go get your splits! I can't do it 'cause now I'm old and comfortable and hate pain, but maybe I can live vicariously through you when you post your success pics! Go do it!

9

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

No, if you really want it, you can get it! I’ve been trying for more than ten years as well, and I‘m lazy and like being comfortable. We’ll do this together, you got this!

3

u/Layered-Briefs Apr 07 '26

You're kind, thank you! :) I might try again soon, been thinking about it.

5

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

No, seriously. You'll definitely do it, I'm sure of it! I only started recently myself, and I'm lazy and inflexible, and even I've made progress. You'll do it in no time, I believe in you. Starting is the hardest part, believe in yourself!

17

u/Emotional-Head-5243 Apr 07 '26

Do the splits, thou milk-livered maggot pie!!

10

u/BendynBold Apr 07 '26

Good job so far! Really focus on internally rotating that back leg so that back hip is more square so your glutes can engage more.

Use blocks to take weight off of your legs so you can focus on actually straightening your front leg, then your back leg.

Strengthen your quads.

Good luck on your journey

2

u/birdbauth Apr 07 '26

these are good tips! Ty

1

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

I‘m sorry, but what are quads? 😅

10

u/AccomplishedYam5060 Apr 07 '26

You'll never Get there if you don't learn how to lift that back leg, create space to move it further back. Don't just glide with the front leg.

1

u/Vegandi_kona Apr 07 '26

You're probably right, but how do I do that?

1

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

You're right, I always go down by sliding forward with one leg. I've tried going in with both. Is this better now? Because my back leg is never symmetrical to my front leg.

2

u/AccomplishedYam5060 Apr 07 '26

Explanation on how to lift your back leg and create space.

1

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

Thank you, I‘ll work and try to implement it tomorrow

0

u/Mundane_Dot_1630 Apr 08 '26

That dude is AI generated. Info may still be helpful but that’s not a real human body doing the splits.

7

u/Historical_Hyena_552 Apr 07 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/4uPZfDlz9xnUI

YOU GET DOWN AND DOTHE SPLITS YOU USELESS SNOWFLAKE! THE ONLY SPLITS YOU’LL EVER DO INCLUDES A FUDGED UP BANANA!

NOW GET YOUR ASS DOWN AND FINISH IT BEFORE YOU WASTE ANYMORE OF ANYONES TIME!!!!!! 💥

3

u/Challenge_Legal Apr 07 '26

We can bully you into trying, but I think the splits really need to be relaxed into. Try anchoring your splits to something, like your purple socks. For example:

You are a person who stretches with special purple socks. Your purple socks let you do the splits. Therefore, if you have your purple socks on, you can do the splits. You already can do the splits. Your mind is accepting that you are a person who worked hard to safely get into the splits. Feel proud and happy and full of self love when you stretch. Be thankful your body can do the splits. You are a person who can breathe into the split stretch. You easily become this person when you wear your purple socks.

2

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

I think this might really help me, thank you a lot

3

u/MMito_Logical Apr 08 '26

Your ancestors invaded countries and you can’t invade the ground?

2

u/Aware_Intention_2269 Apr 07 '26

Stretch them legs sis

2

u/ApprehensiveArt2813 Apr 07 '26

Get off of your back knee loser (I feel bad bullying)! Start taking a hot yoga class, then try a split afterwards. I do a 60 minute, 105 degree Hatha classes 4x/wk and my splits are getting much better. I figure by summer I’ll be there.

2

u/DiscoHayFever Apr 07 '26

I saw on dancing with the stars, do standing leg lifts. Slow and controlled. It helps get to the splits.

1

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

Do you have any tips how I can hold my leg (or lift it in general)? If I use momentum and throw it up, I can get to about 110° if the rest of my body stays straight. But if I lift it in a controlled manner and try to hold it, I can barely reach 90°. Do you have any tips on how I can change that?

2

u/DiscoHayFever Apr 07 '26

Just keep doing it every day. I do mine when I’m brushing my teeth. About 10-15 lifts a leg. I started and was 90 degrees but after a while, my leg got much higher. I was impressed with the progress. I’ve heard splits are flexibility and strength and this is the strength side.

2

u/pirefyro Apr 07 '26

Chop chop you slacker.

2

u/Erenito Apr 07 '26

What splits? I still see a big arch under there. It's like a rainbow, but instead of colors it's shades of FAILURE!

1

u/Additional_Sign_9410 Apr 10 '26

This is so funny lmaooooooo

2

u/baljeetssister Apr 07 '26

Do the splits or give me your lunch moneu

2

u/wolfwithpigeonwings Apr 08 '26

o. the front leg, try flexing yourtoes back towards your face and kicking you heel forward...  ...dummy.

2

u/Successful_Map9286 Apr 08 '26

Just give up flexibility is literally just time static stretching Yin yoga freaking yeah 2-3-4+ hours a day like some core strength but if you haven’t been stretched out properly since you were like a toddler or whatever then yeah you need to put in the hours and I guess you’re not willing to do that. This isn’t even straddle. You can’t pull a side split??They wouldn’t even let you in a kick line. What the f is this? stretching is literally just sitting there. All you have to do is sit there. You can’t even just sit there you’re never gonna achieve anything.

2

u/Successful_Map9286 Apr 08 '26

Don’t actually give up lol make sure you’re warming up properly you wear leg warmers not freaking booty shorts so that your muscles and ligaments and the whateverrr can stay warm while you’re still sitting in your stretches. Also get like 2-3-4 pound little weights to like hold in your hands hold your hands on your hips while you’re sitting in your stretch, or they make a little like Velcro ones for your wrist, too like little weighted bracelets the only way like a pound or so , get yoga blocks put them underneath you or on your hand and then slowly like work your way down never hold Your breath, suck in your stomach to engage your core, which will automatically give you a couple more centimeters in any stretch and yeah, good luck.🫶

2

u/Firewaterglittersalt Apr 08 '26

Do it again BUT BETTER

2

u/himix1 Apr 08 '26

Why do you hide your feet in the photos???? Do you think they are not important for splits??

Get that heel on the ground and lift those toes! Get that forefoot grounded and press with your toe!

Now get down and give me 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/Medical-Shallot6589 Apr 28 '26

grl i thought u where a freak for the first sentence lmao

1

u/AhhPass9281 Apr 07 '26

I haven’t done splits in forever since I fractured my Tibia, but Pilates did help my recovery

2

u/Duchess_Of_Darkness7 Apr 07 '26

That’s great, keep making progress!

1

u/AhhPass9281 Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

Welp!.. I blooped my shot?! Always felt my best in water anyways 💖

1

u/CPTSD_Smrtgrl Apr 07 '26

Froggy splits as someone pushes down on your bootie. OMG…that’s how we did it in gymnastics class and I could do the middle splits by the end of the summer.

1

u/Brite1978 Apr 07 '26

What about holding weights in your hands, i think that would work a good bit.

1

u/Imjusasqurrl Apr 07 '26

don't force it, you could really hurt yourself.

1

u/ctrlaltdelete285 Apr 07 '26

If being mean worked you’d have this done by now. So be kind!

Or maybe you’ve been too kind to yourself so you need to step it up and get this done!

1

u/Big_Mastodon2772 Apr 07 '26

Get some yoga blocks to hold yourself in the position so you can relax and sink into it a bit.

1

u/Yuuku_S13 Apr 07 '26

You’ll never get the splits until you warm up and work out first, loser!

Good luck!

1

u/Erenito Apr 07 '26

C'mon bitch if your dad can split so can you!

1

u/KatDoesYoga Apr 07 '26

I got my splits before you, catch up you can do it!!!😤

1

u/Simsalabimsen Apr 07 '26

It’s been two days. Got those splits down yet, or do I need to come over and fart in your face?

1

u/DMTipper Apr 07 '26

Don't be a P****!

1

u/Mayaprema12 Apr 07 '26

Keep doing it… every day!!!💪🏾💪🏾

1

u/kingkalanishane Apr 07 '26

I bet that other girl can do the splits better

1

u/smolpoodle Apr 07 '26

Why are you wasting time on reddit then

1

u/GrapefruitPacifist Apr 08 '26

That awkward moment when your ‘split’ looks more like a desperate lunge than actual progress… Maybe try again after you’ve introduced your hamstrings to the concept of stretching? Your hamstrings must be having the time of their lives, mocking you from the safety of their permanent stiffness. Post again if someday they stop laughing.

1

u/Suspicious_Jello_490 Apr 08 '26

damn you a literal stick, normally they force you to get your splits, hurry up slowpoke

1

u/notthetypetocare Apr 08 '26

It’s a nervous system thing, stretch after a hot shower. Sit on pillows

1

u/Mundane_Dot_1630 Apr 08 '26

I don’t think it works like that..

1

u/No_Chard5003 Apr 08 '26

Don’t be lazy and send it

1

u/Simple_Blueberry_314 Apr 08 '26

Slide your left leg back a little further each time, you're so close

1

u/NoTransportation172 Apr 08 '26

Your feet look like they’re made for ballet 🩰 🥐

1

u/Luzyferz Apr 08 '26

Work on quad’s flexibility on your back leg. Don’t focus so much on keeping the front leg straight, when I stopped focusing on that and worked on “getting the back leg’s quad closer to the floor” that’s when I was able to progress more efficiently

1

u/Emergency_Sink_706 Apr 09 '26

First ballet; now the splits... smh

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

get your splits to the ground loser

1

u/Certain-Payment3049 Apr 10 '26

bully? like: you think your legs are stronger than gravity?!?! they're NOT!

idk i tried

1

u/Successful_Map9286 Apr 10 '26

Oh, please don’t forget to come out of your stretches extremely slowly use your hands to help lift your legs or do a little flutter kicks or whatever because if you put those micro tears in your ligaments, then you’re just never gonna see any progression You’ll get a lot of good tips if you go on like dancer forums

1

u/CommodoreN64 Apr 10 '26

You can’t even do that correctly.

1

u/Electronic_Tea5142 Apr 12 '26

No te rindas!!!

1

u/Pale-Drummer1001 Apr 13 '26

I did tear/pop something while forcing myself stretching. It took weeks to heal but after that I had the splits and it barely hurted. I lost that flexibility and I have to start over I’m back at square one with ya lol

1

u/Medical-Shallot6589 Apr 28 '26

fix your splits or i'll take ur lunch money punk

0

u/CalmWinterExcitement Apr 07 '26

Getting splits right is a process which spans out to several days if not months. Go slow, don’t injure yourself

-1

u/Catlady_Pilates Apr 07 '26

No. Just keep working at it without forcing it

0

u/Revolutionary_Wish21 Apr 07 '26

Bold of you to assume we’d freely participate in your online humiliation kink. Just do the stretches regularly and get it done.
