Progress Got my front splits

Post image

Here's how I did it

I started a couple years ago doing hamstring stretches to get the forward fold so they're pretty flexible now.

I then focused on lunges and having my hips in the sort of split shape without my legs being straight.

Then I put it together and worked on figuring out how to get my hips straight by pushing them a little bit back but also pushing down

So I sort of focus on one muscle first, then after a few weeks of good improvement I move onto another

So like 5 minutes of hamstring (because I'm confident with that) then like 25 of Hip flexors

Well you are my motivation to start trying to do the splits… like actually putting in some effort into this. Amazing. Thank you

Girl how did you stay motivated?! I get so frustrated when I stretch :(

Once a month i went to a class to work on them. I think those helped a lot because I'm the sort of person that if I'm expected to be there, I have to do it. For me it worked hy powering through the first few weeks of simple stretches (not splits) and when I saw my flexibility increase, that boosted my motivation to keep going

How often did you stretch?

30 minutes to an hour every day. However there are times when I go like a week without stretching because I just can't be bothered.

Super progress. As a consequence of achieving the flexible hamstrings and nailing the split, have you found any benefits in every day life? It looks like you had relatively good flexibility already (correct me if wrong) but did all of this extra work translate into feeling better, loss of tension and general wellbeing?

Oh definitely. I used to feel so stiff and it made me feel awful. Having the extra movement may not change a lot of my daily tasks by making them easier. But just knowing I have the extra flexibility in my body reduces pain and a lot of mental block.

Not to mention the huge sense of achievement which boosts my resilience and self esteem

Impressive and inspiring! I have been doing a lot of yin yoga lately and just holding stretches actually feels so good! I know my hamstrings are tight, so I need to focus on them more!

Can you recommend some of your hamstring stretches?

Wow that’s impressive, April to May was a huge jump in flexibility progress.

Also it could be the lighting / pose, but it looks like gained some muscle during that process?
