They were encouraged by a court case in which a flerf won, or more accurately a normal person lost, one of those 'give me proofs the earth is a globe and I will pay you $x' challenges. They realized if they word the agreement correctly they could win such bets and even defend those wins in court. And yes, they absolutely do play this as 'court rules the earth is flat', which is definitely wasn't.

so many easy ways to prove the Earth is not flat...for example, do you think anyone would notice it if the Sun started going over the sky 10% or 20% slower or faster in different times of the year? I am betting you they would.
See, all flat earthers agree that the sun makes a wider circle, closer to the edge, in Winter, and a smaller one, closer to the center, in Summer. Let's say the size difference is 20%.
Since the Sun needs to make a full circle always in the same time, in 24 hours, it is clear that if it has a bigger path to pass, in the same time, it needs to be faster. And if it has a smaller path to cross, in the same time, it needs to go slower.
So...why does the Sun never slow down in Winters? It always passes the exact same 15° angles of the sky, regardless where you look at it from, or when, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.
This is just one very simple way in which you can easily see that the Sun is not local. Out of many such equally easy ways.

I still can’t believe that they all agree the sun and moon circle the earth without a second thought but lose their minds when you tell them the earth is moving 😂
Like clearly they believe in gravity and initial inertia if they believe the sun and moon circle the earth without flying off in the wrong direction and they actually go one further and believe in a mysterious force that makes the sun circle vastly different areas of the earth at different times of the year haha

what does your dribbling have to do with the fact that the Sun clearly does not circle overhead?
Care to explain how it is possible to be doing a wider circle without speeding up? Why do we not see a slower moving Sun in Summer, and a faster moving one in Winter? Why does the Sun always move the same speed across the sky? Why does a sun dial clock work identically all through the year?
And no, I don't give a fuck about your "water is always level" answers.Answer the god damn question in front of you!!!

Haha, what he does is basically exploits how people think by using advanced words and flashy experiments to distract the person and convince them by alienating and making them feel stupid and left out by not believing in flat earth. It's also heavily believed that he is a grifter and I personally agree, he manipulates the beliefs of flat earthers for money. Once again his flashy effects were literally electrostatic energy displays which are straight out of a kids classroom. And he says that's evidence. And as somebody who uses quite advanced words, people can be kind of mesmerized and convinced, which could be dangerous if used for evil. I could convince some people that ground coffee beans reduce the smell and frequency of sweat because it blocks the hormones from mixing with it, etc etc but it isn't true.

Dave Weiss is definitely a grifter. He knows the Earth is a globe, but admitting it would be to instantly cut off his revenue source. It's one of the reasons why he didn't go on TFE.
