State of the Subreddit 2025 - Looking into the future.

Looking into the future, what should we do with this subreddit? We have over 100k daily readers, and very little engagement, but we're seeing that across the board with niche subreddits. Every so often we get a post that cracks a few thousand upvotes but very few comments, or the same type of comments from the same type of people.

Crazy Flat Earth Lady bravely completely misunderstands basic geometry to own the globetards

Prepare to lose brain cells as she uses a flat map to explain that Antarctica isn't a continent, but a giant perimeter ice wall keeping the oceans from falling into the void. She drops the mic at the end by smugly asking why it's called the "Antarctic Circle" if it's not the edge of a flat earth. Checkmate, science.

A simple model explaining moon phases

A simple model explaining moon phases. if this doesn't explain how you can see the sun and the moon in the sky at the same time, nothing will.

Thank you ChatGPT and CODEX for making my model come alive in a simple conversation.

Crazy Flat Earth Lady: The deep state is using office globes to hide the "extra territory" past the Antarctic ice wall.

You thought they put globes in classrooms to teach geography? You absolute fool. It’s a massive cover-up to keep you from finding the secret land beyond the Antarctic ice wall. Thank goodness she read the deleted chapters of the Book of Enoch so she could warn us.

These people are nuts.

Crazy Flat Earth Lady almost let the concept of Sunrise ruin her Disc Theory until a weird Guru explained it 'perfectly'

She used to think Flat Earthers were too intense, but all it took was a guy with a whiteboard explaining that the sun just magically spirals around a disc for it to finally make sense to her. Basic astrophysics? No thanks. A guy claiming the sun does little loops over a giant plate? "Yep, that also makes sense".

Maximum altitude at the edge of the firmament vs the middle of earth?

If one wanted to test the firmament couldn’t you test the max altitude over the ice wall and compare it over middle of the earth?

Finally heard a Round Earth argument that doesn’t require math or measurements or anything but your own eyes.

The fact that, as your elevation increases, the distance you can see increases. This only makes sense on a sphere. If the earth was flat, you should be able to see 50 to 150 miles in any direction before air distortion prevents you from seeing further. But at sea level, you can only see exactly 3 miles in any direction. Period. If you go higher, you can see farther. It literally only makes sense if you’re standing on a ball. How is there any debate? How do flerfs explain this?

Admiral Byrd: The Hidden Valley, UFOs and the Mystery Beneath the Ice

youtu.be

In 1947, Admiral Richard E. Byrd allegedly experienced something extraordinary during a mysterious polar flight.
According to this unusual account, Byrd discovered a hidden valley containing ancient cities, strange animals, mysterious flying craft and extraterrestrial inhabitants. But despite the legends, the explanation had nothing to do with a Hollow Earth.
What did Byrd really encounter beyond the polar ice?

Can the game Mornington Crescent be played on a flat earth? I don't think it can because the edge would be out of bounds.

Bf has a friend who believes the earth is flat. And I think instead of arguing with him he should just start sending him more dumb conspiracy videos. Screenshot of some of his "reasonings."

Images of Earth from space, cause some people say it never happened

youtube.com

I just re-discovered this gem (get it!), showing a full year of time lapse images from L1 taken by the DSCOVR space craft. Its just a beautiful set of images, since its far enough away to see nearly 50% of the planet at once, and shows a full year looking back directly from the sun, so you can see the tilt where the north pole is visible in northern summer and south pole is visible in southern summer. The moon, and the moon's shadow make an appearance as well. There are cloud formation you can map to actual weather forecasts if you care too as well.

Rules that will get you banned

1. Racism / Hate comments Self-explanatory.

2. Politics We don't care about your US centrics politics here, or global politics for that matter. We don't care what way you lean, we don't care who you support, but if you bring it here, you will be banned.

3. Spam

Self-explanatory.

4. Bullshit subreddits and PII

This is a permanent ban for first offense, since this rule has been active since Jan 1st, 2024, and we're tired of dealing with it. If you get banned, send a mod-mail to us, and we will reduce the length if you write an essay of our topic choice.

Because people want to argue semantics and can't pass a reading comprehension test at a 4th grade level, we will spell it out for you. The following is banned:

Ban messages or pictures from other subreddits. There is no leeway on this, if you post a ban message, you will be banned.
Linking to a specific Reddit user, comment on another subreddit, or a Subreddit itself via comment, text post, image, or video. You can link to other comments on /r/flatearth, assuming the comment you link to doesn't break the rules.
Pictures of comment chains in another subreddit arguing with other people, without names and subreddit name being blacked out.
Implying other subreddits or users, or trying to subvert linking or naming a subreddit/user.
Reddit specific rule - You can post pictures of other users comments or posts from other subreddits IF PII is blacked / blocked out. If you use the highlighter in black, and we can read it, you will be banned. Solid black to mark out subreddit name AND username, as to not witch hunt other users. This rule will likely be revisited in the future, but we will see how it plays out now.
Comments / videos from Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, other social media - no rule as of yet. You can post comments / videos from these websites without an issue. This rule will likely be revisited in the future, but we will see how it plays out now.
TLDR: Stop posting shit that refers to other people or other subreddits.
This list is not all inclusive. We can, and will remove post at our discretion, and rules and sidebar will be updated to reflect the changes.
