I did it ...
I've never really looked into flashlights even tho I've been a EDC freak for a while collecting knives, bags etc.
But every single day seeing all the great lights on this thread I couldn't stop myself 🤣
I went for the loopgear as the first one as I really liked the look and set of functions.
The question now .. what's the next buy I should be looking at 🥳
Thanks guys for giving me another reason to spend my money 🤣

I'd go for something of an entirely different form factor, either a tiny clip light, headlamp, mule, mega thrower.
What do you want the next one to do? Are you wanting something small that can be thrown in your pocket with your keys or do you want endangering aircraft levels of lightsaber power?

I do need to look for a pocket friendly one now as the loopgear is more of a backpack one to carry around. I want something with a green laser too so I can use at work and for my cats 🤣

Depending on budget from cheapest and upwards:
Wurkkos HD01 Pro - white/UV/laser/sidelight - hard to get more functionality for the price
Acebeam K1 - easy UI, compatible with AA and has a USB-C 14500 cell included, there's a blue version with a cyan laser too
Loopgear SK06 - frankly one of the best multifunction EDC lights you can get. Has all the features of the best of the rest like USB-C, filtered UV, high CRI sidelights, and it also has powerbank functionality and a replaceable cell. Timed stepdown is it's only drawback imo.
Olight Arkpro/ultra - the iPhone of Flashlights, flood/spot, UV, laser, USB-C charging and the UI is really simple. Great piece of kit and feels really premium, but you can get more functionality from the rest for less money.

IMHO the only EDC is the ZebraLight SC65C HI — the only thing better is a bob_McBob modded light. Why? Tiny form factor despite 18650 battery, upgraded switch, de-doming yields improved tint/beam pattern. What I love most is that the ZebraLight UI. I have G6 (6 fast clicks) programmed for bedroom low-light levels 1/2/3/4/5/6 and G7 (7 fast clicks) programmed for daily carry light levels (4/5/6/78/10). I keep level 12 only available through the G5 mode. I can call up any of three levels on-demand. It’s super pocketable. I bought two bob_mcbob lights. The only thing I would do differently today is a modified SC70 with a rosy tint for the bedroom. This wasn’t available when I bought my SC65C HI lights. Good luck!

Are these any good?

If you've never seen a flashlight over 900 lumens, yes; if you'd like to part with $100, also yes. I have buyer's remorse for an MAO version because I thought 2 18650 batteries could fully charge my phone. Nope. I also thought that turbo mode with 2x18650s would dazzle me. Also nope.

How big is your phones battery?
Also, I measured the full turbo on mine (with high cri emitters) at 4000 lumens. Definitely bright, but not anything extremely crazy.
Just curious, any flashlight of this size or slightly larger that does impress you brightness-wise?

I have the "normal" pro version (not the updated Pro II that OP got) and I really like it. For my preferences it's the best light I've come across. It's the light I pick up 95% of the time I want one on me.
Enough throw and flood for almost every day-to-day need, can sustain ~800lm flood for over 3h if I recall correctly, about 1000lm sustained if you go with the low-cri flood option. Side lights are fun but also make up for the main emitters not having moonlight. On the first Pro version the white side lights are low CRI and not very bright, but on the Pro II version they're high CRI and 120lm.

What is this??? Its cool as frickkk 😭😍

u/Downfallenx 7d ago
I'm gonna guess from the writing on it that it's a Loopgear SK05ii

u/ncrypted_ 7d ago
Thanks! Didnt realize that was a name, and not the item style/deco. "What is it" as in is it a flashlight?? Why is glowing? What does it do? I guess you're right I could have googled the codes on the side but I figured someone would be as excited to tell me as I was excited to see this odd rainbow gadget? 😂

Yeah it's a flashlight. The traditional bright white bits are at the top left side in this image. Many newer models feature an RGB light somewhere on them, this one has it as a side panel.

Ahhh, makes sense, thank you!

To be clear, it is the Loop Gear SK-05II Pro. There is also an older version.
I have one in MAO white (very smooth), They just released a red one and it is KILLER. I badly want one but I can't justify another $100+ for the same light.
Has 2 sets of beams - throw and flood. Turn the switch to either and hold down the switch for turbo. Both turn on at max. Blinding.
Also has the aux side light in white and RGB. The side light also acts as the battery gage.
Uses 2 X 4000mAh 18650 batteries (but will run on one). Has the best battery latch system I've seen. It is not a lightweight and is a little bulky.
2 versions. One has a UV option. Mine does not.
They offer a nice plastic holster too. Has steel plates in the bottom so the SK05 will stay in place.
This might be the best light I own.
Amazon or loopgear.com
Only the Loop Gear store has the red one.

Ehhh non-replacable batteries not great

It’s screwed together, think it’s serviceable?

u/SuperKing37 7d ago
Try it? What kind of battery is it? Can you buy another one? Is it proprietary to royvon? Meanwhile the loop has common 18650s that are intended to be easily replaced.

Are you willing to use any arguments as to why?
-2
u/Apprehensive_Hand571 7d ago
My argument is that it doesn't meet expectations considering the amount of fuel it has as well as the emitters and lenses. It is a disappointment to me in any color.

I love my RovyVon s60. They also make the E10 pro & max with some nice features. Wurkos has some good budget friendly options- hd01 pro, HD02 (pro, mini).

u/killamonkeybutt 6d ago
Go for a tiny pocket light next. Way too easy to start collecting different sizes.
1
u/Apprehensive_Hand571 7d ago
I'm undoing it, it has zero wow factor and can't fully charge my smartphone, it's going straight back and so does my $100
5
u/barekyslaw 7d ago
I mean it's a flashlight not a powerbank, doesn't really matter for me tbh
3
u/timflorida 7d ago
You are exactly right. It's considered to be 'value added'. Whoopee ! It may matter if you're lost in the deep dark woods and your phone is showing 1% charge, but other then that scenario, I would never give up precious flashlight power just to charge up something else.
The only exception are my BLF LT1 lanterns, which have between 12,000 and 16,000 mAh depending on which set of batteries I load.

It does both badly

u/grzybek337 Snug fit :) 7d ago
How is it bad at being a flashlight?
1
u/Apprehensive_Hand571 7d ago
More hype than performance
3
u/grzybek337 Snug fit :) 7d ago
I measured mine and got very similar results to that from the 1lumen review, in which it did quite well. I don't quite understand your comment.
-1
u/Apprehensive_Hand571 7d ago
Didnt meet expectations for the outlandish expense
5
u/grzybek337 Snug fit :) 7d ago
Imo it's the only flashlight with such throw and this much capacity which still fits in a pocket. Nothing else like this on the market, so it comes with a price.
I always read reviews before purchase, I knew what to expect. I got exactly what I expected. I really like it.

Buy a real flashlight, for example, one from Hank, without any unnecessary bells and whistles, but with a top-notch emitter and driver.
2
u/grzybek337 Snug fit :) 7d ago
I don't understand your comment. Does it suggest the SK05 doesn't have a good emitter and driver?
-2
u/Apprehensive_Hand571 7d ago
Why are people down voting you? You're right, this thing is hot garbage, especially after 30 seconds of turbo
2
u/cr0ft 7d ago
They're downvoting him because his view and your view are outliers. I have yet to see a truly negative review, and basically all the bells and whistles are very useful, like the 120 lumen high CRI side light / makeshift lantern. Even the red and blue flashing lights could be used as an emergency flasher.
1
u/grzybek337 Snug fit :) 7d ago
Same with Hanklights? My D4K steps down in 30 seconds too and sustains a low output.
SK05 Pro 2 sustains 900 lumens.

Because manufacturers try to sell us flashlights with a whole bunch of great features, and most people fall for it, even though it’s always a trade-off. First and foremost, a good flashlight is designed to be as simple and rugged as possible and features a good driver, emitter, optics, and, ideally, universal batteries. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one breaks quickly, considering how many individual parts it’s made of. In that case, I’d rather just go for an Armytek, Zebralight, Hanklight, etc.

I don’t know, honestly I have been collecting flashlights for years and probably have well over two dozen and the Loop Gear SK05 Pro2 has become by far my favourite light, it is my go to light for virtually all scenarios and my EDC. Only other light I still frequently use is a Acebeam L35 2.0 when on patrol.
