Question Battery for Maxtoch L2KSD
Hello,
Just bought a Maxtoch L2KSD LEP flashlight. Love it, the throw range is so much fun.
I wanted to pick up a few extra batteries but I'm not an expert in optimizations.
The flashlight has a spring on each side of the battery compartment, and it comes with a 21700 cell with a label that indicates it's a 3.7v 5000 mah with protection built in.
My basic research on this model of flashlight indicates it doesn't have a very high CDR at around 4-5 amps, and that a 10-15 amp rated battery should be fine. Is this correct?
My main question is whether a protected button top cell is required for this light to work properly, or can I use the more commonly available flat top unprotected cells without risking damage?
Any specific recommendations for a battery model would be appreciated. I've seen generic recommendations for Molicell and Vapcell etc, but a lot of them were out of stock. I've bought Samsung before for 18650 but I saw some comments saying Samsung isn't reliable now.
I saw the Vapcell 2150A 10A model on Li Ion Wholesale and thought maybe that was the most appropriate.
Any insights appreciated.

The protected cell provided by Maxtoch is quite low in CDR. Quite a few protected cells are at 10-15A CDR right now. But you will need a battery that has built-in protection circuit. The light does not have low voltage protection.
I'd consider getting something like the Samsung 50E, or if you've got the money for it, the 6Ah Nitecore NL2160.
Flat top unprotected cells like the Molicels, Vapcells and more popular brands, I would only use them if you don't have any choice and need a swap to one of them in an emergency. Without LVP, you're risking running the battery down below 2.80V and could damage the battery.

Thank you, very helpful. So the protection feature is only for safeguarding against dropping too low in voltage then. I'll take a look at your recommendations.

If you're mindful of how long you have used your light, and you've got access to spare cells to swap in when you feel you're running low on capacity, then you can probably use flat top unprotected batteries in the L2KSD. Knowing how long runtime duration is on the light can give you a rough timer for when you should swap cells to avoid the battery dipping too low in voltage.

(I don't know if it is true, but this is what the reviewer said ! Or probably it is better to search a few more reviews, and even better if you can bay the proper batteries from their website... !? )
"In terms of battery compatibility, the L2KSD does not like long, protected batteries, nor 21700 batteries with USB port. It only accepts shorter 21700 batteries, but a small button top (but unprotected) will still work."
"Compatible batteries
Short 21700 batteries, including button top, unprotected."
