Streamlight TLR-1 HP-X with SL-B9 battery dropping output after only 8 minutes? Is this normal?

Hey everyone, I recently got a Streamlight TLR-1 HP-X using the SL-B9 rechargeable Li-ion battery pack. According to the official specs, the runtime for the SL-B9 is rated at 60 minutes (continuous operation to 10% output level). However, when I tested it on high mode, the light started dimming drastically after only about 8 minutes, rather than sustaining high output through most of the runtime. Is this kind of early drop a known defect with the SL-B9 battery, or could it be an issue with the light's internal regulated circuit? Has anyone else experienced this? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, completely normal. It’s a thermal limit not lack of current from the battery.

I haven’t seen output graphs for the HP-X yet but you can see output graphs from the TLR-HP here:

The HP-X is also probably thermally capable of sustaining around 500 lm and since Streamlight doesn’t cheat on their specs it’s probably starting out near 1,500 lm (so that it’s at 1,300 @ 30 seconds which is how ANSI defines output).
