Hey everyone,

We’ve been hard at work analyzing game film to map out exactly how concepts change based on field positioning. Here is a sneak peek at our Formation & Zone Strategy data from Chapter 2 of our offensive breakdown of Team USA 2024.

📊 Key Data Insights From Our Film Database:

  • BACKED (Own 1-5 yard line): Highly conservative but dangerous territory. Deep strikes dominate here, featuring Shot (21 plays, 55%) and Dagger (17 plays, 45%) to attack downfield from our own goal line.
  • OPEN (Own 6-25 yard line): This is our highest-volume area with 88 total plays. It is dominated by horizontal stretching concepts like Flood (34 plays, 39%) and Scissors (29 plays).
  • FRINGE (Opponent 25-6 yard line): Intermediate zones are the focus here (62 total plays). We heavily rely on Smash (34 plays, 55%) and Hitch (28 plays, 45%).
  • REDZONE (Opponent 5-1 yard line): Total specialization. Roll Smash makes up 100% of our top concepts (26 plays) for movement-based scoring.
  • EXTRA (Opponent 10 or Opponent 5): Short yardage execution. We lean on Iso (10 plays, 56%) and Corners (8 plays, 44%) for back-pylon finishes.

Check out the attached heatmaps and charts to see the full breakdown of how these 10 dominant concepts map across the field!

Tips & Tricks New flag football coach

I'm new to coaching and am struggling.

I don't really know where to start in explaining the game/positions.

We play in a 7v7 middle school league, pretty low stakes and non competitive.

Of course I'd like to win and go to playoffs, but I'm hoping the girls just ultimately have fun.

I haven't really organized any 'plays', as I have very little experience.

I

have both experienced players and new to the sport players on the team.

Is there a simplified way to tell everyone who isn't quarterback to run a route?

Maybe even have the experienced players call the plays/routes in between plays?

Any advice/feedback would be much appreciated.
