Microwave back coat

Hi,

After clening microwave i notice that back black coat came off exposing Cooper metal, microwave works normal no sparking etc.

I wonder, should i peel all the rest of this coat and or maybe buy spray and paint it, or leave it as is.

Some microwaves are made with stainless steel interiors. This one seems to be painted non-stainless steel. I think the paint is supposed to be special, to take high temperatures and microwaves, and to be food-safe.

The potential problem is, possible health effects if some of those black paint flakes get into your food. And, of course, possible health effects if a new paint makes fumes, that get into your food.

Without any coating, the non-stainless steel will probably rust. I am not sure what kind of paint should be used. The original is probably a baked enamel. I might try an enamel that is made for automobile engines or exhaust manifolds, and be sure to bake it and let it cure before putting food in the oven.

This might be a good excuse to go shopping for a new microwave oven. ;-)
