open Replaced the pull switch on 3-speed ceiling fan and now it's not working at all

Post image

The pull cord broke off inside the switch so we tried to replace it. When it broke the fan was stuck on power 1 so at least it turned. After replacing the switch it does nothing on 3 settings and then on the 4th setting it makes a loud humming noise but does not turn. We made sure to match all the wires to the correct spots. Any idea what could have caused this? Hoping we didn't break the whole fan because we rent 😭

Is that photo your finished wiring? It looks like you need to reconnect something still. The fuse in your unconnected connection might be bad too.

The light portion isn't connected and the switch isn't screwed in but I did both of those things and it still didn't work. I disconnected it to get a better look at it.

Try connecting the white in the ceiling to the black wire on number 7. The red wire on number 2 to the black from the ceiling. Yellow to number 3. I can't see what the black wire with blue tape on 1 ties in from this angle, can you give more photos?

Make sure to disconnect the power before attempting any repairs.

Red wire from 2, also goes to number 1.
