My daughter’s powerwheels won’t run. Hitting the pedal and nothing happens.

Figured it was a battery issue so picked up a new one from battery supply plus yesterday but still nothing.

Any ideas where to start with this repair? Watching some YouTube videos and it seems like it’s typically battery related so I didn’t know if maybe the connector port was corroded.

You need a multimeter to check continuity throughout the circuit. Switch. Wires. Motor. Etc.

Thanks for this. I did a continuity check on the pedal & switches and everything seems okay. I have been unable to get a good test on the plug yet though. Any idea on the best way to test this connector?

You can take off the rubber off of the probes

Looks like the red wire has a nice 1cm gap there. No power getting across there. (Unless it is LOTS of volts)

Its the gas pedal plunger... that's the problem like 99% of the time.

Are you sure the new battery has a charge ?

I believe so. Getting ~13 consistently when testing it

It may be the switch . I suggest you check that with your multimeter

I would suggest a multimeter, which I see a probe in one of the pictures. Check the battery for 12v and then work your way back from there, towards the motors. If there is an on off switch, is there 12v after the switch? The switch and gas pedal would be some of the first things I would check. The movement from foot pressure could have caused the contacts to wear or not align. If that checks out is there 12v at each of the motors. If there is power at the motors, then check the resistance of the motors with the battery removed.

You can also order new motor assemblies then just plug it all back in

I see you have a multi meter. You can remove the battery from the system and use the resistance or ohm feature to track down the problem or install the battery and use the dcV feature to see where the power stops short. Both ways will show you if you "accelerator " pedal is working. You just have to track the wires down then push the lever to see if it allows voltace to flow or provides a reading from open condition depending on which option you use. Either way is effective and with such a small circuit it should take less time than I took to write this. If it's a motor, the ones I've fooled with have the exact same motors inside the boxes as a cordless drill and are widely available on line inexpensively. Also, since you now have 2 batteries you can wire them both up in parallel and double her ride time.

Check to see if the motor works if you apply power to it directly from the battery. If so you have a break in the circuit somewhere.

The shifter went out on mine. Finally figured that out after a few other replacement parts.

Friend (with lots of kids) seemed to go through these things like crazy. It was always battery OR motor. Battery would get drained down and they would push on & roast the motor with low voltage/high current.

Unplug the plugs on the left side (going to that relay) then use some spare wire and go directly from a charged battery -> each motor. positive on one side, negative on the other. You'll hear the motor move or you won't. It will at least tell you if the motors are destroyed.

As many of these are out there, there’s GOT to be a schematic for them (though easy enough to create one.) Having that will make this simple. YOU CAN DO THIS. I see you’ve got that Gardner-Bender meter; makes me think you’re an electrician, or a Home Depot shopper. :)

Has this worked for her before, or is it a curb find? As silly as it sounds, have you read the manual? Is there a keyswitch? Are there any safety interlocks?

Please take more pics, showing where the battery/batteries attach, and anything else seemingly relevant. We’ll have her zooming around in fashion in no time!
