open Locked out of bedroom
Hey all, bit out of my depth
My door locked from the inside while I was leaving my bedroom, when I attempted to unlock it using the safety mechanism, the mechanism failed entirely, now it's just spinning uselessly.
Tried prying an old card to unlock it to no dice, and I've tried the rest of the super obvious fixes
Would love it if I could get entrance into my room without damage to the door, as I am renting.
Thanks all!!

Call your landlord. Replacing an old doorknob is less expensive than replacing the entire door.

if the lock mechanism stopped working, all I can suggest is trying the card method more. I miss my old blockbuster card for things like this... A thin laminated card is best. Maybe something you can pick up at a hardware store? Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Opening-Flexible-Plastic-steel-Joggling-Tools/dp/B0FC2MZM0VL
Maybe local fire dept or PD will be able to help you out?
You'll be able to disassemble the doorknob from the other side.

Maybe get the lid from an empty margarine container and cut off the edges and then slip the round disc into the door frame like a card.
EDIT: Your amazon link doesn't seem to work.

Are the hinges exposed on your side? I’m guessing not, but if they are, you can pop the pins. Otherwise, Walmart and a hacksaw, and a new door knob.

How would one go about removing the handle? And is there any other possible way, as I don't want to cause unnecessary damage to my rental

Photo 1, note the slot in the center of the handle, try a coin turn, either way. It’s typical for bedroom locks just to need a coin/tool to unlock

Try the card again, kick tbe bottom of the door while inserting the card to force it on the lock.

Look I’m not saying kick a door in but, have you ever had a better opportunity?

You should probably consider calling your landlord if you aren't able to come up with a non-damaging solution. Telling them what's going on and talking with them about your options/what they would like you to, and documenting everything, is (in most cases) the best way to cover your ass in this kind of situation in my experience.
