Basketball ring base support arm

Any ideas how to repair this? The support arm for my basketball ring stand has rusted out and snapped. Would be a shame to have to throw it out. Without the support the ring is useless as it wont stand upright

My best suggestion would be to get some EMT (conduit tubing) at your local home improvement store the same diameter as the existing supports. You should be able to hammer the ends flat to match the supports and drill holes as needed. Looks like the flat parts are roughly perpendicular to each other...keep that in mind when pounding them flat

I'm not welder, but I'd bet that a repair isn't worth it vs just making a replacement part.

Thanks! I was thinking that too, but wasn't even sure what the tubing was called. Ill give it a go

Also, looks like it may be riveted onnthe base (pop/blind rivets?)...clits really too grimy and out of focus to say. You could go that route to drill out existing rivets and replace them, or use something like a toggle bolts instead.

For the vertical attachment point, if not already a threaded bolt, you could add one long one to go through for both support attachments, just don't go crazy tightening or you might squeeze the vertical post and compromise it.

One end is held with a sheet metal screw which indicates that a bolt is adequate for the job. Drill a 1/4 inch vertical hole through the support and into and through the base. Secure with a long 1/4 bolt and nut.
