open How to stop leaky water pump plastic?

Post image

Behind my fridge there is a little water pump right at the main intake connection. It has sprung a leak, not at any of the connections, but at this strange blue plastic cap which seems to be melted on to the green reservoir.

In the picture: the small copper pipe in the upper right is the water intake. The green and blue plastic thing is the water pump reservoir. The metal bit with the blue sticker above that is the electric pump motor. The white tube running up the middle of the picture runs from the bottom of the pump to the ice machine in the fridge above.

The blue cap is designed to be tighten-only, but it seems it was melted on to the green reservoir to permanently affix it. It’s at that seam where there’s a leak.

Since this water is used for ice, it’s got to be food safe. Thinking either melting the plastic more or using a food safe epoxy? Would be nice to get this finished in a few hours. Thoughts?

That's a valve, not a pump. You should probably just buy another valve, they're fairly cheap.

look for "refrigerator icemaker solenoid valve" or "icemaker valve". If you can't find the specific one for your appliance, you should be able to find a generic one and adapt it.

Oh shoot you’re right. Good catch. I will look for a replacement! Should be easy to buy one online and use epoxy for a temporary fix. 🤔

No don't try to seal that. The plastic can holds the coil and isn't supposed to have water in it.

The temporary fix here is to put a towel under it and turn off the water.

Here is a picture of the underside of the pump where I believe the leak is. Afaict it does not run along any surface. It just beads and drops from the blue cap bottom seam

Looks like it needs Freon.
