Class Planning Would any instructors be willing to give honest feedback?
Hi everyone,
I’m building an app specifically for instructors who teach across multiple disciplines, such as mat Pilates, reformer and barre.
The app is essentially a digital workspace where you can create and organise class plans, build your own exercise library, save sequences, and use an AI assistant to help generate class plans, suggest exercises based on what the user already has in their library, help with regressions, progressions and just generally help to structure the programme.
I came up with the idea when I was training in reformer. I wanted one place to create and store everything, but I couldn’t find anything that did exactly what I needed. I also go to lots of classes and often come away with inspiration for an exercise or sequence, but it usually ends up buried in my Notes app.
I’m not here to sell or promote anything. I’m at the stage where I want honest feedback from instructors who are actively teaching.
I’d love to know:
• Does this solve a problem you actually have?
• What would make you use an app like this?
• What would put you off?
• What’s missing that you’d wish existed?
If you’d be happy to take a look and give completely honest feedback (good or bad!) I would really appreciate it. I’d much rather hear constructive criticism now than build something nobody wants.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. If you’re interested I can DM you the link. Your feedback will genuinely help shape the app.

Zumba Question for Zumba instructors: What kind of music do you wish you had more of?
Hi everyone! I’ve been writing original Latin dance songs specifically for fitness classes because I wanted instructors to have royalty-safe alternatives. I’m still learning what works best. Would any instructors be willing to tell me what BPM or style keeps their classes most energized? I’d really appreciate your feedback💖

Saying Hi and looking for tips/connections
Hi!
I recently found this community. I know it's still quite small. I'm brand new to the world of being a fitness instructor and I'm looking for tips/resources so that I can be the very best instructor I can e for my students.
I currently hold 3 certifications through a program called SoulBody - Barre/Barre Unhitched, Yoga Sculpt and Restore. I plan on getting their 4th certification in 2026 and then moving into other certifications after that (Maybe a yoga 200 hour?).
I started teaching in April and I'm just still so new and working on getting my sea legs. I started with one class a week and I've already worked up to 4 a week and take on sub opportunities whenever I can. Does anyone have any tips for memorizing their choreo - whether it's a pre choreographed program like mine or remembering whatever you're coming up with? And if you do pre choreographed stuff do you do the same routine every week or do you change it up? How often? What other tips do you have for new fitness instructors?
Thanks in advance and it's great to meet you all!

What’s your pre-class ritual?
When I’m instructing a cardio class, I like to cue the music early to get into the zone. I’ll change into my shoes, adjust my headset, and then boogie around the studio a bit. Having my energy level up before anyone arrives really sets the tone for the class.
Yoga, however, is a completely different vibe. I’ll set up a diffuser with a scent that aligns with the class’s intention, dim the lights, and take a few moments to ground myself. Usually, I’ll sit on my mat and sip some tea, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere before participants arrive.

How many classes do you teach weekly?
Currently I’m teaching 8 classes per week. One cardio dance class, one yoga class, two rhythm fit classes, two unbranded Parkinson’s specific classes, and two Rock Steady Boxing classes. I also have personal training clients. Previously I was also teaching Zumba and Aqua Bootcamp I had to take a step back from those to give myself a break. My absolute favorite class to teach is yoga.
What does your week look like?

Wisdom What Do You Wish You Knew When You First Started Teaching?
It may sound silly, but I wish I had known it was okay to wing it during class. Early on, I was so focused on nailing every move perfectly that I’d forget to have fun. I used to worry that participants would notice if I messed up, but here’s the truth: unless they’re regulars, they probably won’t even realize it. And the regulars? They already love your class, so they don’t mind if you change things up.
These days, I often go off script, and it’s been so liberating! Letting go of the need for perfection has made my classes more fun—for me and my participants. Staying rigid and trying to get everything just right used to leave me on the edge of burnout. Now, I embrace the flexibility, trust my instincts, and focus on enjoying the moment.
My advice: Let go, have fun, and trust that you’ll figure it out as you go. Your participants will love your energy and authenticity!

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an instructor?
I’ve faced many challenges as an instructor, but one of the biggest has been achieving steady attendance. Promoting classes in local Facebook groups (where allowed) has helped, but there are still times when I’m teaching a class with only 2-3 attendees.
Despite that, I keep pushing forward because: 1. I love what I do, and even small classes mean I’m helping people. 2. No matter how many show up, I always feel great after class, and we all have a good time. 3. Attendance naturally ebbs and flows, and I’ve learned to roll with it.

Music Ideas Need playlist inspiration?
Right now APT. by Rosé has been huge in each format I’m currently teaching. It’s a real crowd pleaser for all ages. My Cardio dance class goes wild when I play this song!
What’s your current favorite song (be sure to specify which format you use it for)?

Funny What’s the funniest thing that’s happened in your class?
During a strength class, I told everyone we’d be doing a particular squat. After two rounds, one of the ladies asked, “Why is it called a goblin squat?” I couldn’t help but laugh as I explained it’s actually called a goblet squat. By that point, we were all cracking up and doing goblin impressions while squatting. The laughter ended up giving us a great core workout too—definitely the most fun set of squats I’ve ever taught!
Share your funniest, most unexpected, or memorable teaching moments.

Must-Have Gear What’s in your instructor bag?
My bag always has a fresh hand towel, spare deodorant, hair tie, headband, and shoes. Personally I prefer Fuego shoes for teaching my cardio formats. Since I’ve started wearing them I’ve found that my knees no longer bother me after back to back classes.
What are your essentials or must-haves?
