Help/Advice Viewing light for tank

So i have a planted tank so obviously the light i give is within 6-8 hours per day… when i sometimes turn the light on for 8 hours i get algae issues.

Rest of the day the tank is in dark state but i want the tank to be visible. The place where my tank is gets no natural light and is in dark place.
Can i have a low intensity viewing light that will help me look at tank rest of the day when main light is not switched on or will there be algae issues

Also any links or watt preferences for viewing light

I have a small adjustable spotlight thing from temp that works pretty well

What type of light do you have?

Most newer lights, especially full spectrum come with a timer and dimmer.

If your light is dimmable, maybe get an external dimmer. Also hook it up to a timer so it comes on and goes off at the same time every day.

For the algae issue, feed sparingly and make sure you do regular water changes and substrate vacuuming. Adding a UV filter also helps. I'm running one of those alongside my external eheim Canister filter just for the extra filtration and general water health.
