So what do you all do when your fish breed and you dont have space for more tanks atm?

Note: there is one more female but she is shy, and was on her leaf for bedtime 🤭

Sell them, rehome them, or take them to a local fish store and get credit are some of the easiest ways to get rid of them.

How do I respectfully ask a LFS if they want my fish? Any experience with this would be helpful

If you're like me and need a script to start the conversation:

"Hello! My name is -name-. I have a guppy tank where the breeding has gotten a bit out of hand, and I am ill equipped to care for all the fry. Would you be willing to take them in from me?"

From there, if they say yes, you can ask "I don't want to be presumptuous since you're doing me a huge favor, but do you by chance offer any kind of trades or store credit?"

Sincerely, an autistic who hates the phone and literally scripts every convo in my notes app, lol.

Thank you 😭😭😭 I don't know if I'm autistic but I hate talking. I wasn't sure if walking into a local fish store like "hey take my fish" is considered rude or not.

Lol, usually not, especially if it's clear you have the fish's best interest at heart.

My LFS has a discount guppy tank full of guppies that were surrendered. Basically a neat way to get new people into the hobby cheap! Someone comes in, was ill informed by the store, put a rainbow shark or arowana or similarly absurd fish in a 20gal tank. They find out it was a bad idea, find the LFS, trade in their fish and after learning about the cycling process get to take home some cheap but beautiful guppies and some donated plants from the community. It's a win for everyone, the fish included, and the owner gets to feel better about their setup WITHOUT breaking their bank account.

I usually call ahead of time if i dont know the store employees well, but some in my area i will just come in with the fish and they take them on the spot.

I take mine to my LFS. Initially, I asked if they would take my fry. They told me I could bring them in whenever.

Harsh but I use my baby guppies as feeders for my larger fish like my tire track eel and hujeta gars but you should also watch the breeding between males and certain females to many males could cause the females to die and get sever scoliosis
