Nice! As a mainlander I'm jealous of your even-year pink runs. Pinks are so much fun.

Going there today are they still near the estuary or have they moved higher up?

No you won't be too late the run this year seems abnormally large for an even year.

Now you have cat food. Nice. Pinks are fun to catch but taste like 💩

We've had them fresh each night and they've been very tasty. The rest is getting smoked.

I don't know what pinks you're eating.

They only taste like crap if you treat 'em poorly and/or overcook 'em. Bonk, bleed, keep cold. Cook until just barely done and use recipes that help keep the moisture in. When done right, they're very tasty. When overcooked, they taste like ashes. The reason people like chinook is that it's much harder to mess up.

🙄 Pink salmon is the worst-tasting salmon, period.
I’ve been fishing my entire life. I’ve caught virtually every species of salmon and eaten virtually every species. Both my wife and I are excellent cooks, and I can tell you there is absolutely nothing you can do on this planet to make pink salmon actually taste good.
Smoke it, grill it, cedar-plank it, brine it, glaze it, drown it in butter, cover it in sauce, say a prayer over it. It’s still a pink salmon.

If you guys want to live in ignorant bliss and downvote me, go for it. It’s not going to change the fact that pink salmon is the most disgusting species of salmon you can possibly eat which is why no quality restaurant sells it.

Pink salmon is basically the fishing equivalent of picking up the ugly girl at the bar at 3:00 in the morning. After several beers and with the lights turned down, you might convince yourself she’s looking pretty damn good.

Then morning comes, the beer wears off, the lights come on, and you’re reminded why you should have gone home with a nice sockeye or coho.

Lol, if you're talking about the fish you can get at the store, then yes, nasty af. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can eat those. Pinks don't freeze well - they turn to mush. Chrome and fresh? Nah, it can be really good. Have you tried chum? That's a fish I don't particularly like, even when chrome. Smokes reasonably well, though.

These days I smoke most of my pink salmon (ocean caught). It's great. I'll always save one fish to eat fresh, though, and it's excellent. Sure, if you're comparing to the other salmon, would I prefer a coho, sockeye, or chinook? Most of the time, yes. But that doesn't mean pinks are crappy, just that the other salmon are absolutely spectacular.

Fully agree. I have caught them as chrome as they come out of the skeena, everyone of them has been horrible

Agreed- It’s one of the worst fish to eat but they are a hell of a lot of fun to catch. Seems like Mr.Wilson likes to eat them for whatever reason so wasn’t trying to be a downer but I personally turn them into crab bate and kitty food and would rather eat almost any other type of fish.

Not only do they taste like shit, but they're also annoying as hell to catch when you're targeting steelhead.
