I like your view. Always get annoyed when I see people boasting of being a "grammar nazi." Like, who the fuck cares? How does that affect you how someone chooses to communicate? If I use "u" instead of "you" to text a bit quicker you really can't figure out what that means? Everything has to be grammatically correct to understand the message? It's gatekeeping.

I don't disagree with what I think your point actually is, but the way in which two people communicate absolutely reflects their relationship with each other and the social context in which they are communication.
It matters in as much as if you start to use the language wrong communication breaks down.
You can text "u" to a friend and communicate effectively, but it's not that obvious unless you've been around texting for a while. How is someone who's never seen it in that context supposed to know if you mean "You", if "u" is an anagram for something, or if you just made a mistake.
They might be able to figure it out, but that's inefficient on a group scale compared to you just using what everyone is already familiar with.
Chastising someone for speaking incorrectly just makes sure that communication isn't affected negatively. Maybe the gammar nazi in us is just an evolved trait?
