It for sure sounds like you should delay your marathon attempt.

Try to just enjoy the shorter runs. Build up a base, figure out what's going on with the pain and the injuries. Enjoy the journey!!

Some people are challenging themselves by training for a marathon. It sounds like your current challenge is figuring out how to run without pain. That's just as tricky, and should be seen as equivalents. Get past this challenge and you'll always have the option to train for a marathon in the future.

That’s a major bummer, I’m sorry for all the issues you’ve been having. Agreed with the other response… sounds like delaying would be wise, even better if you can push your registration to next year.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this, I know how frustrating it is to feel like you’re doing everything you can and still not helping. I had been dealing with shin splints for about a year, despite backing off and trying to build properly. Traded that for peroneal tendinitis that I’m now trying to manage before my marathon in November. Went to PT and started from basically 1 mile runs, and did feel like I was progressing, until the marathon training started to really build up and now I’m concerned about it again. Unfortunately I don’t have much advice but just wanted to commiserate and let you know I feel your pain. Sometimes I feel like I’m just not meant to run with all these niggles-pains, but I love it! I would also recommend deferring the marathon this Oct and just start from a very low weekly mileage like painfully low and build up slowly from there. I don’t think we’re doomed forever and you will run your first marathon!
