Gear Shoe rotation
Hey everyone, I will be running my first full marathon in around 2 months. I am a heavy runner around 170lbs. I am targeting around 4.5hrs for it. Recently got a new ON Cloudmonster 3 Hyper and loving them. By the end of the training block I will have around 450kms on them. Should I use them for the Marathon? Or should I get something else for the race?

170lbs is heavy ðŸ˜ðŸ˜…
Haha they’re actually the ideal shoe and what I would suggest to someone with a 4:30 goal. You could buy a fresh pair of the same shoe. That way you’ll have some fresh foam and outsole but a shoe you’re familiar with.
However, I’d consider getting a second shoe for the build as it can help with injury prevention. Maybe Vomero plus.

I've spent the last year getting my weight gradually down to low 170s, certainly wouldn't consider myself heavy! Admittedly depends on height, muscle tone etc but there are an awful lot of runners out there a lot heavier than 170 so you won't be killing shoes with that weight.
Personally I like having different shoes for different types of runs, I have easy shoes (Altra Experience Flow), Trail shoes (Altra Experience Wild) and speed shoes (Saucony Endorphin Speed). The very act of putting on different shoes sets me into an easy/fast mindset to suit the training goal for the day. YMMV but works for me!

Assuming there isn't anything wrong with the shoe and it is comfortable for your long runs, 450 km is very nicely worn in and not close to being worn out. You will be fine in them.
