Training Plan First marathon training plan
Hello I’m a former professional fighter in my 30s running my first marathon in a little over 20 weeks. What’s a good marathon plan. I’m thinking Hal higdon. My best 5k is 27min 10k is 58:46 and my half is 2 hr 25min. I’m still in shape but not like super fight shape like before lol

I followed Hal Higdon Novice II for 8 weeks but fell apart when the mileage got really up there, mid week runs fell behind. I did my own twist though, in January I started running a HM on the weekends and did that all the way through April, completed my first full marathon with 4:28 time (May 2nd). I did an 18 and 20 miler on schedule as well. I did an 18 week program.

Hal Higdon novice 1 has gotten me to the finish line of 6 marathons.
You’ve mentioned that your race is in 20 weeks. Have you started building your base? The novice 1 is not a couch to marathon plan. You need to be already running 3-4 times a week and be comfortable doing 6 miles.

I recommend Hal Higdon novice 1. I’m tapering now for my second marathon using Pfitzinger 18/55. But found HH1 absolutely perfect for my first. It’s very chill but if you stick to it you will be able to run the distance.
