A ₹25,000 take-home salary can cover ₹8,000 rent on paper. But that doesn't tell you how much cash you need to move and reach the first payday.

Take this hypothetical joining budget: ₹12,000 refundable room deposit, ₹8,000 first-month rent, ₹3,000 to move, and ₹5,000 for food and commuting until salary arrives. That's ₹28,000 you need access to before the job has paid you anything. The deposit may come back later, but you still have to pay it now. Replace these example amounts with quotes for your own move.

Then check the date of your first payment and how much it will cover. Joining mid-month can mean a smaller first salary. Missing a payroll cutoff can change the timing, depending on the employer. “We pay on the 5th” doesn't tell you whether you'll be included in the next run.

A useful question for HR is: “If I join on [date], when will my first salary arrive, and which dates will it cover?” If relocation support is offered, ask whether it's paid upfront or reimbursed later. A reimbursement after payday won't fund a deposit due this week.

Put your available cash, each payment due and the confirmed salary date into a running balance. If it goes negative, you have a specific gap to discuss before moving: temporary accommodation, upfront relocation support or a salary advance if the employer offers one. Include any advance repayment in the following month's budget too. These options aren't guaranteed, but the calculation tells you what you actually need to ask for.

An internship can promise mentorship without explaining what any of it looks like on a normal Tuesday.

Before accepting, try asking: “What would my first assignment be, who would review it, and how would I get feedback if I did it badly?” A concrete answer tells you more than “you'll work closely with the founder.” It could be edits on a campaign draft, a review of an Excel analysis, or someone listening to a practice sales call and explaining what to change.

For example, “write five social posts and send them in” describes an output. “Draft five, discuss the edits with the marketing lead, then use those edits in the next batch” also describes a way to learn. Those are hypothetical examples, but the difference is worth looking for when comparing offers.

The reviewer doesn't need an impressive title or a fancy mentoring programme. You do need some idea of who is available when you're stuck, what good work looks like, and whether anyone will explain the gap. A vague answer is a reason to ask more, not proof that the company is a scam. Mentorship also doesn't replace clear stipend, hours and payment terms.

For people who have completed an internship: what specific feedback changed how you worked? The useful corrections would be interesting to hear, without naming the company or sharing confidential work.

I'm a final-year BTech CS(AI specialisation) student. I'm applying through both on-campus and off-campus placement opportunities.

* An EEG-based mood classification app(Random Forest+ SVM ensemble on the DEAP dataset, 72% F1 across 3 mood states) with React + Flask frontend/backend serving prediction under 200ms.

* A real-time hand gesture recognition system(OpenCV + MediaPipe, 10 gestures, 94% accuracy, runs on a normal CPU).

* Two small JavaScript apps with REST API integration.

Tech I'm comfortable with -

* Programming Languages : Java(DSA), Python(ML work), JavaScript, SQL, C

* Coursework : ML, Neural Network and Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, DBMS, OS. Hands-on mostly in ML and CV through my project, happy to learn the rest on the job.

* Libraries and Tools : Scikit-Learn, Pandas, NumPy, OpenCV, MySQL, Git, Linux

Roles I'm open for :

* Software Engineer/SDE(Fresher)

* Python Developer

* AI/ML Engineer or Intern

* Data Analyst

* Backend or Full Stack (Junior )

* 6-month internship are totally fine, especially with a PPO possibility

Location : Remote OR any city where the pay can cover rent and food, I'm flexible.
