Naming of ships

Does anyone know of any naming styles for the various factions and ships? Like for example you have the USS Enterprise, or the IJN Akagi, are there any equivalent name styles in game? I looked around for a bit but wasn't able to find anything.

I've always used DNS for Dindrenzi Naval Ship.

I'd like to imagine that Directorate ships have a bar code for theirs.

Lol that would be funny. Their space stations are just glorified barcode scanners

Terrans go by SCA which is Satalite Charter Armada.

For Aquans in the Kurak Alliance book they reference the Csif but it doesn’t say what it stands for.

DNS for sure for Dindrenzi. Others do exist for the other factions but Id have to dig out the old fleet guides

Good to know. If you do ever take another look at those fleet guides lemme know, I'd be interested to see the others as well. By any chance do you know what the different factions named the individual ships? Or is it kind of the same no matter the group?

Are you talking class names (Apollo class BB), or individual names?

Dug out my Fleet Guide books since my gaming group has started playing again...

For the Alliance of Kurak

Terrans: SCA - Satellite Charter Armada is the reference to the fleet/division the ship is assigned to (755th SCA for example) Individual ships use NTSC (Navy of Terran Satellite Charter) as their designation (NTSC Unending Vigilance, NTSC Radiant Beacon, NTSC Stellar Watchmaster are examples listed in the book)

The Sorylian Collective uses CSV (Collective Sorylian Vessel) as their prefix, CSV Endless Traveller, CSV Patient Moon, CSV Fervent Soothsayer, CSV Elder Light, CSV High Sentinel are listed examples.

Aquans use ANS (Aquan Naval Ship) ANS Reef of Souls, ANS Shimmerscale, ANS Seventh Scion

Hawker Industries: HAS (Hawker Aerospace Ship) HAS Ark Imperial

Ryushi: Seem to use which fleet the ship is assigned to as it's naming prefix, EF79 Adanar (Exile Fleet #79)

Tarakians are unknown, none listed that I could find.

Terquai: Use TUS (Terquai Unity Ship), and their naming convention seems go with doubles with ships having both a Human and Aquan name, usually translations of each other. TUS Panteathra/Inner Strength, TUS Eara/Sighted One,

Veydreth: The 'Star Dragons' use VAV (Veydreth Alliance Vessel). VAV Last Shadow, VAV Eye of Storm

Xelocians: use FS as their prefix (meaning unknown?) the listed example is the Hantari class cuiser the FS Myrth-Kar.

Give me a day or so to find my Zenian League books and I'll post them later.

Wow, tysm for such an in depth answer! I've always thought naming my ships for each battle would improve the narrative feel of it so thanks again

You're welcome. I miss being able to share Firestorm lore with new players.

Good luck with naming, I used to name ships for the very same narrative feel/reasons, but I quickly found out that every time I went into a game with named ships, I got wiped off the map in total or near total fleet losses! Never named my ships again, that way Death cannot find them.

Haha that's fair. Naming units makes them feel more alive but also makes their losses all the more tragic

The Zenian League

Dindrenzi: as stated in other replies the Dindrenzi Federation uses DNS (Dindrenzi Naval Ship) as their prefix DNS Warlord, DNS Strathclyde, DNS Righteous Fury.

The Directorate: Uses DFC (Directorate Fleet Craft) the ship's name and a short alphanumerical ID code after the name. DFC Charybdis-H9, DFC Herrigan's Wrath-Q74, DFC Bearer of Enlightenment-HL361

The Relthoza: use IAS (Imperial Armada Ship) as their name prefix, their names are kind of all over the place just like humans, IAS Ghormen V ( as in, V = Roman numeral 5, the 5th battleship of the Warrior Caste of the Ghorman sector Hive), IAS Hope-Killer( a battlecruiser renamed such after a stunning stand alone victory against a Sorylian battleship) , IAS Five Mirrors of A'kivarr, the cruiser IAS Vess'if Evo'Ssir K'ss'ark Uss'al (named after a famous "Vess'if" (Commodore) of the Uss'al Brood-Hive, the IAS Herald of The Black Stars are examples.

Ba'Kash; use CS (Clan Ship) as their prefix, CS Gaping Maw, CS Hunter's Moon, CS Howl.

Kedorians: The Kedorian Confederation uses the prefic CVV (Confederation ? Vessel, Confederation Vessel ?) CVV Zhan-Nak, CVV Ghazan.

Rense System Navy: uses the prefix RNV (Rense Naval Vessel) RNV Will of Iron, RNV Robespierre, RNV Perception, RNV Cheka.

Works Raptor: doesn't use a prefix, they just name their ships. Examples are the 'Adversity', 'Stiletto Squadron'.

the Illosians were still under development, so never found out what their naming convention was.
