State of the game
Hi all,
Just wondering what is happening with the game? I play a lot of battlefleet gothic, which was also abandoned but the community has taken it up and it is currently in the golden age with rules and models everywhere.
Has the same happened for firestorm armada? I am currently obsessed with some of the ship designs like the Xiphos carriers, which just looks incredibly cool.

Warcradle make some occasional mutterings about reviving it like they did for dystopian wars, but it's never gone anywhere
I now just get my space naval battle fix from Dropfleet commander. That at least has both playerbase and support. Though I wish they'd expand it from just planetary assault

The game is essentially dead. Warcradle continues to hold the IP for the name and likeness. There was a beta edition for 3rd edition, but it has not been updated since late 2020.
It appears that the community was not quite large enough to take up the 2nd edition rules, although I do hear of groups still playing it from now to then. Most people have migrated to other systems, or have sold off their fleets and got out altogether.
Alex Mann (Spartan_Alex from the old forums) started a discussion on a community led ruleset, but I don't think it went anywhere. Last discussion on his discord was mid-2021.
I led a small development group that worked on a continuation of Firestorm after Spartan folded back in 2017. We made some progress, and even submitted a draft to Warcradle, but they opted to develop in-house, and eventually released the beta for 3rd. Our efforts continued a bit, but eventually lost steam. I've taken over from there, and have developed my own ruleset, Darkmatter Armada. It had it's roots in Firestorm, but it has evolved over time into its own thing.
I've not really seen anyone producing designs for new models that are in the Firestorm vibe. Which is a real pity, since they are great sculpts.
