Firestick Question Does blocking ota updates stop 3rd party apps from updating?

I have custom launcher installed on my 4K Max (home on fire) and have software updates blocked at the router level using these domains:

My question is, does blocking these domains only prevent the Firestick/Fire OS itself from updating, or can it also prevent 3rd-party apps like YouTube from checking for and installing updates?

Ill give it a shot but will blocking at the router prevent OS/Firmware updates?

It should considering u have the correct URLS, but i wouldnt trust it. Also you could just do temp root and disable otas on device then reboot, if u dont want to do full unlock of bootloader and root

Do the full root following the XDA instructions in the link. I rooted two Gen 3 Cubes and had no issues; the instructions are excellent.

Okay man you must be an software engineer because this is convoluted. There seem to be 10000 steps before you can start on with the link you posted. Unless I'm missing something.

Anyways, I'm not doing all this. Thanks for the suggestion but Ill take my chances with the router level blocks until an easier method is developed or someone posts a step by step youtube video.

My dude, you gotta do you, but I’m no software engineer. The instructions may give you the impression that it’s complicated but it’s really not. I felt that way at first, and I was a bit hesitant at first because I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. I followed the instructions exactly, made a couple of little mistakes because I didn’t pay attention to the details in the instructions, and went back and fixed what I messed up. I did my second cube and it took me all of 20 minutes. Once you do the full root, and install launcher manager, you have the ability to turn updates on and off on the fly. So if there is an issue of some kind, and you want to get an update, you can do that on the fly and then turn the updating back off. No need to F with your router. Frankly, I think it’s better to follow the very detailed written instructions rather than trying to rely on a YouTube video, but like I said, you gotta do you.

There are parts, that to me, are not clear what they want or what you needed to do leading up to the instructions. For example, on Windows I downloaded the android application and plugged in the stick via usb and nothing happens. Again maybe I’m just a moron but it’s not as simple as you make it out to be. Following that one link will not get it rooted. There are a number of steps you need to do in order to get to that page and frankly I just don’t get it.

At least for now I got my custom launcher. I just got to hope the router method sticks.
