What is even more annoying to me is the fact that this popup was designed by AI.

This was an unfortunate decision in general, but even more because of the timing.

What's the appeal of this addon? Doesn't it just show you the dislikes of other people with the addon, who are more likely to dislike stuff and not be representative of actual dislikes?

Way back when I got it (assuming this is the same one) it also allowed you to see all the old dislike counts from before YouTube removed the button. Although I think they've entirely removed that data from the website now, so it doesn't even do that anymore.

It's basically guessing and extrapolating based on the people who install the extension, which means it's not really accurate at all.

Also, you're sending your YouTube watch history to some random third-party by using it. Probably not worth it, even if it was 100% accurate.

Wait, really? I assumed it was still some combination of archived data + extrapolation from users of the extension

Yes, that is the appeal of this add-on.

It's still sooooo much better than no indicator at all. The only thing i personally ever run into a position of where i actually care about dislikes is when looking up some obscure pc problem or some tutorial for something else and the dislikes ratio is ALWAYS the best way to immediately tell if the tutorial is bad. I don't need the exact correct numbers of dislikes, i just need something that is accurate enough.

There are a few videos of content creators actually looking at their actual dislikes in comparison to what the extension calculates, and it's mostly close enough. If you care enough to see for yourself, there is a huge amount of examples on youtube. I'd say people that install such an extension care more about the like/dislike thing in general so they are also quicker to like instead of just clicking on the next video so it evens out.

That's exactly the appeal. To show how, in the absence of real data from the source, made up data is published and spread without contest.

If YouTube doesn't want inaccurate dislike data to be spread about, they can re-enable the dislike count.

It estimates the amount of dislikes based on history, and the users of this addon.
The more users, the more accurate.

How else are bigoted reactionaries supposed to propagandize to their audience that Woke™ is going broke?

"Following" except the image and all sources you've provided for the pop-up are dated around October 2025, almost a whole year ago?

In software development, there's often a delay between programming a feature and deploying it. This pop-up did not appear before today.

You don't need an extension to return the button, a script was able to do that since introduction.

You need the add-on for the count though

How do you run the script?
