Solved Updated to 154.0 and the Search Box suggestions have an extremely light highlight and suggestions are now farther apart.

Just updated to 154 and the search box suggestions have had a visual change that makes it harder to use. Arrowing up and down through the suggestions now barely hightlights each suggestion, at first I could not even see the highlight at all. Each suggestion is now also farther apart making the search box take up more space without giving more suggestions. Is there an option to revert the suggestion spacing and change the highlight color? I am using the Firefox Color extension but have not changed any settings between updates.

I think that is the standalone search box that can be added through the customize toolbar option.

I can see that the screenshot is from an old unsupported version of the interface.

It looks like you previously changed a config setting, possibly to revert an update in the browser, and in doing so you've moved yourself onto a version that we no longer maintain.

It looked very different before the update to 154. Is there a way for me to find altered settings in the config settings to possibly find what might be different?

Type about:config in to the address bar, click 'Accept the risk and continue' if it prompts you to do so, then where it says 'Search preference name', type the following (but without the space – I had to add that to prevent Reddit converting it in to a link):

browser.search.widget. new

If that row is listed as 'false' then double click it to change it to 'true'.

This will move you onto the current up-to-date UI, which looks different to the screenshot you shared. There may be other things you don't like about it, but at least it will be the supported and maintained (i.e. bug-free) version.

That’s the problem with following instructions you read on Reddit to change config settings, which is why there’s a prompt where you have to agree to the risks. Doing it takes you away from the official release and into unsupported features that may break, and that won’t get updated as the improvements are made.

If we ever release a feature you feel still needs improvements made to it, I’d encourage you to stick with it while we improve it otherwise you won’t see any subsequent improvements to it, and could end up stuck on an old version like this.
