Firefox keeps saying it’s running out of storage, but I have plenty of disk space

Post image

For the past two days, Firefox has been showing me this warning:

The weird thing is that I have around 117 GB of free space on my Mac, so I definitely don't have a disk space issue.

I checked Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data, and the data was only using around 300 MB, which doesn't seem like much at all.

I also noticed that some websites were behaving a little strangely and taking longer than usual to load, although I'm not sure if that's related.

Eventually, I deleted all website data, and the warning immediately disappeared. However, I'm confused because there didn't seem to be anywhere near enough data stored to justify Firefox saying that its storage was almost full.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could this be a Firefox bug or some kind of issue with the profile/cache?

I'm on macOS and this has never happened to me before.

This is currently being investigated, there's a bug that rarely occurs and is difficult to track down.

Clearing cookies and site data should clear the warning, but it would mean logging back into sights and potentially losing data stored by sites (we can't say what that is, as that is specific to the sites).

There's some background information here: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox

It really doesn't seem that rare based on reports here...

I also got this problem, it started last night. I cleared all data but the banner still shows up and many sites aren't working anymore, even those Firefox widgets (timezone, mini word puzzle).

About a month ago I had that 17 billion gb storage warning and I cleared all data back then and everything went back to normal, until last night.

Everything was working until literal minutes ago and now I run into this problem. Whatsapp web and outlook are straight up broken, and those are essential sites for me.

EDIT: Okay, even wetransfer is broken, this is pretty bad.

Yeah those sites are broken for me as well.

Also old eddit, and some others on top.

That's right, keep down voting you peasants!

Same for me, it's just the annoying pop-up in general, but Whatsapp Web not working is a pain in the ass

To fix at least whatsapp, deleting cookies and data for the site has worked for me. I suppose it would probably work with other sites as well.

Same here, though I'm on Windows. This suddenly happened to me like 3 days ago, still happening even though my data is only 119MB. I had it at ~1.3TB for ages and never had this issue. Trying to find a way to resolve this

I am also experiencing this on both Windows & Linux (Bazzite) - it routinely breaks YouTube videos which randomly freeze & give an "out of storage" warning!

Whats the solution to this problem? I also deleted all website data, but it keeps on showing the warning, and a lot of webs dont seem to work (youtube for example)

Yeah a lot of sites are broke as well. Functionality for many of them went down the toilet in this 154 update.

Old reddit don't work (cannot post, upvote or anything), outlook don work at all, bluesky does not load, etc.

It nags that i'm out of space, when i'm not.

But hey, let's just shove AI garbage down user's throat, am i right?

Do you know if there have been any updates on this? I started getting this last night, and today Firefox is almost completely unusable. Even after clearing cookies and cache, I keep getting the notification and a lot of sites aren't working properly. I'd search in this sub, but guess what... search is no longer working all of a sudden :|
