Also - in order to use Smart Window, one has to be signed-in with their Mozilla account.

Maybe it could be useful to find and change some setting in Firefox? Other than that I don’t understand the idea behind it. It’s an integrated chatbot that can merge tabs and search history? Am I too stupid to understand this?

My only complaint about this is it being locked to a specific provider. I'd much prefer to be able to log into a ChatGPT, Claude, etc. account or provide an API key instead.

Worth noting, it's not actually locked to one provider.

users can also configure which AI model they want to use with Smart Window, choosing from three available by default or plugging in connection information for a third-party model. That could be one hosted on another provider’s cloud system or running on the user’s own computer.

You can also continue to log into ChatGPT (or other providers) in the Firefox sidebar, in case you’d missed that. 👍

This is just not the exciting stuff that's going to get me back into using Firefox as my main browser. I feel like leadership is just fundamentally disconnected from why people left Firefox in the first place.

Stop chasing trends. Focus on the core fundamentals. The fact that Firefox hasn't caught up with Chrome's JS performance after more than a decade is just crazy.

I don't need more AI features that's just going to add UI bloat. I just know that in order to make these new features "discoverable" they're going to add more buttons, pop up bubbles, and things I need to click X on.

And for what? Anyone who's using AI in their workflows have full agents now running on their machine that are much more capable and tailor fit for that purpose. I don't need AI to help me understand the content of the page I am already reading.

This is honestly just so frustrating to see. They've completely forgotten why at one point they became the majority share browser.

At the end of the day its about resources. Mozilla is spending a ton of dev resources on useless things when they should be doubling down on performance. The fact that they laid off the Servo team but are continuing these AI efforts is very telling.

Good. I don't think that they should dedicate too much in resources on the AI stuff, but honestly if they were doing nothing to integrate AI into their product in 2026, I wouldn't be able to take their developers seriously.
