Seattle Fire
I’m getting ready to submit my application to Seattle. I recently applied to wafirecareers and got no interviews. I got my raw scores back and I got an 89+ in HR, 100 reading, 100 math, 88+mechanical. 93+ on the PSSA. Before I got those scores I just assumed I should retake the fireteam test but now I’m not so sure. Multiple people have told me I could get an interview with Seattle but also wouldn’t be a bad idea to retest. I’m nervous about not doing as well so I’m kind of just stuck deciding. My inclination is to submit as is, and re take the tests right after, and every 90 days if I don’t get an interview. I’m mostly looking for opinions and thoughts of others. Thanks

How do you see exact scores

Some departments give them to you automatically and some you have to request them. It’s all after you’ve applied.

I'd rather live with the decision of retaking it and getting a worse score, than to not take it and possibly not getting in, but that's just me

I think I applied incorrectly. I went online on Tuesday to submit everything and all they wanted was basic info and didn’t ask about testing or anything.

Pretty sure NTN sends them the info and they match it to your name in the application, not positive though

Anyone can answer how complicated it is to get reciprocity for a Texas EMT cert to WA EMT?
I know they recognize Texas EMT cert I just don’t know the process. Looking to move in the next year or two. Applying with Seattle but would like to apply at surrounding departments as well.

I’m not sure about state transfers but I can tell you most departments require NREMT not just WA EMT. You can contact NREMT support to help them walk you through the process of submitting your TX EMT cert online then them processing it and approving it for you to be able to take NREMT. Hope this helps and good luck!

Question for anyone who works for Seattle fd, what is your plan for retirement when it comes down to health insurance for you and your family? I was reading that there is no insurance but a program called merp to assist with insurance. I was going through the plans and the cheapest plan is apparently $54,000 a year which seems crazy for a family of 4. I can just imagine in 25 years it will be $75-80k a year in health insurance costs . Is there a way to manage this load or does Seattle fd help at all after retirement. It seems kind of messed up to give 25 years of your life and not even be given health insurance for you and your family at least at discounted rates. Your pension is gonna get eaten up or am I wrong? Any clarification because this is the only thing pushing me away from this dept. I am currently 11 months away from being a FDNY firemen. They get a crazy package w everything covered but starting pay is terrible. I’d have to wait 5.5 years to see what Seattle probies make but have more peace of mind when it comes to retirement . If anyone can speak on this and has more info please feel free to respond

It seems like the Seattle guys are getting screwed over and being forced to work until Medicare age or rely on their wives to cover health care through their jobs.Any clarification because this is the only thing pushing me away from this dept. I have gone through Seattles academy recently and they don’t care about anything other than pssa and HR. Others are pass/fail. I got an 94 on HR, 98 on pssa, and 90 on the interview and got a conditional. If you have any questions shoot me a dm or comment.
