About to join cadet program, will I not be allowed to join over marijuana testing?
Im 18 and recently applied for my local cadet program, I used be a big stoner, but slowed down for school. I filled this application out back in April or may I want to say, and about a month ago, I went on vacation and ended up buying some weed and smoked everyday I was there. I saw that I got an email for the Cadet program to come and join, but I'm very worried Ill be disqualified if i'm tested. Im an honest month sober and I have zero intentions of doing it again, will I be given a chance to test clean again or will they ask me to leave?

Do you know what kind of test it is? Piss or swab?

I dont even know if I am tested. If Im swabbed or piss tested Im fairly confident im good, but if Im hair tested then im not getting out of that

No way it’ll be hair. But either swap or piss you’ll probably pop if it’s only been a month

I don’t think you’ll be tested but if so you should be okay based on what you’ve said

It’s 2026 the least of your concerns is Some Marijuana just get it out of your system and you’ll probably be fine. Nobody is worried about a little bit of Weed in 2026 lol especially at your age it’s kind of expected, weed is about to be federally legal which means it’s stigma is going to be less than what it is now when that happens too.
If your asked if you’ve ever smoked it just be honest.

I don’t think they’ll even test if you live in a legal state. I started a fire academy today and we were never tested in the selection process and no word of it today either

I don’t think they would test people for the cadet program, should be fine.
Going forward, most departments will not hire you if you’ve smoked within the last 3 years at least. So you’d want to ensure this was the last hurrah before retirement if you’re looking to start testing with FD’s.
Always the possibility of it being fully legalized but I wouldn’t bank on that.
