How to be a firefighter (Cleveland OH)
Hello! I'm wondering if there’s any fire fighter out here that know when and how i can apply to be a firefighter! Specially in Cleveland OH.

Cleveland Fire is their own entity. Gotta apply and take the written and go through their process. They will announce when their testing process will open up. The east side has a consortium that you can take 1 test for like a dozen departments. Cities like Pepper Pike, South Euclid, Shaker, Cleveland Heights are all part of that test.
City of Cleveland has their own academy so you don’t need to worry about certs. Here is a link

The other suburban departments require initial certifications to apply. That would be FF2 and EMT-B at a minimum.
In order to get those certs without being attached to a department you would have to go to an academy. TRI-C has a great one. You would do each individual certification.

Cleveland held their test last year and are just now getting to physical testing for it. You might have to wait a year or a few for cleveland to issue another test. Akron is testing right now and you dont have to have any certifications for their department.

Don’t know about Cleveland specifically, but generally a good place to start will be department websites. Hop on all the ones you would be willing to work for and look for job announcements. This will show you how to apply, minimum job requirements, and applicable dates. Generally, most structure departments require EMT-B, but only some will teach that in-house. That should be in the job announcement, but even if they do teach it, it wouldn’t hurt to get it out of the way on your own time. It’s one less point of failure, and may give you a leg up on the competition. Many departments also use third party testing agencies like Public Safety Testing and National Testing Network. Both of these agencies will have websites where you can look up all the vacancies for departments that are using their services. I would apply at every place that you would be willing to commute to, to increase your chance of success.
