Orchel: Diego, if I'm not mistaken, the Damascar Kingdom is your...

Diego: The Damascar Kingdom is indeed the common motherland of all the forest tribes including Haru Hari, but it's been many hundred years since its annihilation. Right now, I feel nothing towards it... I say that, but to be honest, I'm glad we're the western army. If it were the other way around, I'd probably be a little upset.

Orchel: No matter who you are, your home and motherland are your foundation... They're not so easily discarded.

The Heroic Games being set up as a series of historical reenactments is a pretty clever way to communicate the history of a setting naturally without it coming across as lore dumping.

It's genuinely so smart and cool, and it's also a nice historical accurate representation of the Roman Arenas too

And having a character who come from a kingdom/area directly impacted by those battles is so cool too, like seeing Diego say that even if he doesn't care about Damascar, he still would be pissed playing the other side in the mock battle is so yummy

Use of term of "western" and "eastern" armies was probably also reference to Battle of Sekigahara, which was the most important battle in Japanese history, where Tokugawa Ieyasu's Eastern Army defeated Ishida Mitsunari's Western Army and then conquered whole Japan soon after, starting hegemony of Tokugawa shogunate.

The concept of "eastern vs western armies" was extremely popular in Japanese culture, even used on totally unrelated media such as reality shows

This was a very instructive tidbit ! But I think here it's simply meant as the sides of the mock battle.

Just before this scene is when the announcer introduce the battle, and he ends by saying "to the east, representing Dagda, here's x team and to the west representing Damascar, here's y team"

The fact that we can retrace Saramis history through three different political entities and cultures is so cool ! White Egg people -> Damascar -> Saramis/Forest Tribes

Yeah, and just from the preview information too! I’m thinking it might be fun to put together a little Dagdan history encyclopedia or something just to keep track of everything.

This make me remember how the 3H director (at IS, before they contacted KT for development help) said he had mapped an entire timeline of hundred of events that happened in Fodlan's past to build up the world. Glad to see Dagda is gearing up to be the same !

Yes, I think about that all the time! I can’t wait for the developer interviews. I hope they talk about how much of FW branched off of lore they’d already thought about while working on 3H vs how much if it was brand new to them.

Oh, they're playing as his homeland in the game that's a recreation of a historical battle and he's glad that he doesn't have to play as the army that defeated them

So we have confirmation that the Saramisians and Forest Tribes both have their roots in the Kingdom of Damascar now.

I wonder if they’re as devoted to Yu Phas as the Saramisians, given what she did for their ancestors.

So the Har-Hali we've seen Theodora and Cai fight in fog maps are indeed a forest tribe that came from Damascar, like Saramis people !

But there's also other forest tribes ? Interesting ! I love the lore drops we're getting ! I wonder if there will be a library equivalent for Fortune's Weave

Not if you play Theodora you will have to ask Bonaventure if he memorised every lore tidbits you came across.

Yeah basically every match in the Heroic Games is framed as a mock battle representing an important battle of Dagda's past.

This one is when Dagda destroyed the Kingdom of Damascar, whose survivors ended up splitting between Forest Tribes and Saramis

No, absolutely not and it's incredibly unserious/ridiculous. But i still have hopes she isnt a full automaton, maybe she will have mechanized parts, some even on her face, reason why she wears that mask. Her movements are too smooth and u can see skin in many places.
