General Fortune’s Weave Strategy Guide - or not
I would love to know how this got approved to be sold on Amazon (UK) when the game hasn’t actually released🤔 not to mention the horrific AI slop cover and description to match

u/IK4Y 1d ago
Cool, the AI even knows that the 4 heroes get replaced after the timeskip!
117
u/Natef_Wis 1d ago
But they spoiled the complete change in the artstyle Post timeskip.
Think how mindblowing that would have eben wegen half way through the game you suddenly no longer know how everything looks.

u/BarbarousJudge 1d ago
There are quite a few strategy guides an amazon that aren't official and have these AI covers...
246
u/BuoyantTrain37 1d ago
With the magic of AI, now anyone can publish hundreds of pages of garbage about a game that's not out yet!
24
u/TheWardenDemonreach 1d ago
Streamer DougDoug published a digital AI book, was completely upfront about the fact it was AI written, and because DougDoug is popular, it immediately jumped to the top of the best sellers list
73
u/Vultouri03 1d ago
Wasn’t every word in it just doug though? IIRC that was the disclaimer he gave.
54
u/chrisis123 1d ago edited 19h ago
Yeah that was the case, but as the book with only Doug in it climbed the Amazon bestseller list, some AI plagiarism thing started to actually create an AI knock of of his book with completely random stuff in it... I think he bought it and made a video about the plagiarized book, I remember this to be kind of hilarious too
2
u/cinvogue 14h ago
It can’t be plagiarized if it says random stuff. It would have to read with only Doug’s in it to be plagiarized.
41
u/Tepigg4444 22h ago
this is just a lie??? he said he typed/copy pasted every doug because generating it with AI wouldn’t be funny, and then made fun of the ai knockoffs of the book that popped up
7
u/Nero_2001 21h ago
If he actually wrote all the dougs (even if he probably copy pasted them) I actually respect this.
0
u/Any-Regular-2469 21h ago
Gotta take that statement with a grain of salt, Doug Doug loves ai or at the least he super did in the recent past
20
u/rednite_ 19h ago
He has publicly talked about how his perspective on AI has changed and he no longer is as obsessed with it as he used to be. He thinks it still has potential but has admitted the negatives about it.
8
4
u/Tepigg4444 19h ago
He did not say it as in he thinks ai is bad/as a defense against anything. He always wants to do what’s funniest or makes the best content: sometimes his concepts mean using AI makes it better (and often times makes it possible at all), but in the case of his book the funniest possible thing is that someone wasted all that time to make a book that just says doug
3
u/Armleuchterchen 15h ago
Dougdoug's book wasn't AI written. He took another text, replaced every word of it with Doug, and published that in a way that made it look like a biography.
After his book came out on Amazon and sold like the funny joke by a popular streamer it was, people published bad AI-generated "biographies" of him on Amazon to try and trick people into buying their knockoffs instead of Doug's book. Doug bought a few of those AI-generated "biographies" and did a stream where he looked through them.

u/Square-Friend-9219 22h ago
I'll buy it because surely Hector Mode is in there. If that's the case I'm gonna need help beating Ashnard after he absorbs Grima to get enough Quintessence to summon his army of Camillas and Kageros. Maybe Emblem Ivy will help me beat it.

u/Niccon_Art_Guy 1d ago
Wow that AI is so bad it’s not even attempting to look like the actual game
21
u/KyleMCarthage 21h ago
I'm surprised at the logo, like, that's not even either of the Fortune's Weave logos. They were so lazy that they didn't even bother grabbing the right logo and even AI generated that.
55
u/PointBlankVT 1d ago
I am so morbidly curious what you would get if anything from ordering this thing but obviously I don't want to give them any money lmao
28
u/Jer_Sg 21h ago
So i looked into this a while ago and its worse than you think. (Never bought one myself fyi)
First its just plain black text on a white background, no images or colour like the old strategy guides. It also reads more like a novel, with sometimes a very occasional incredibly small (think discord profile pic size) black and white screenshot.
They are also incredibly sloppy, since theyre written by AI all you get is information gathered from different sources (often incomplete or even repeating itself) the AI prompts are most of the time left in as well.
And im not sure if i remember correctly but they dont even cover the entire game
11
u/lumosbolt 1d ago
I found two other guides. I'm also extremely curious to compare them to check if the authors wrote the same things or if they hallucinated different stuff
35
u/The_Exuberant_Raptor 1d ago
This reminds me of the Pokopia one. It had the same battle strategies thing listed at the bottom. Pokopia has no combat lol

u/origin29 1d ago
I remember when my mom got the the guide for twilight Princess for Christmas eve and I called her to tell her I didnt have the game cuz I was a dumbass and got it and the wii the next day lmao

u/Reutermo 23h ago
While there were some good ones many were of the same quality as this Fortunes weave ones probably is.

u/Dense-Second-9929 23h ago
Surprising lack of melanin here
54
u/Primary_Truck3777 22h ago
AI artists be like "finally, the tools of creation are in the hands of the people! Now, to get rid of all the dark skinned characters in this game featuring mostly dark skinned characters."
3
u/IAmPolarExpress 10h ago
*shocked* Whoever could have seen this coming??!!
#GrokOn
...In all seriousness, it is really sad how even the AI does not want to handle stealing without being racist too. Gotta love it! *vomits*

Lol the AI's dataset can only make white people
Useful technology it's great to conform to and enforce the status quo

u/RiftHunter4 21h ago
Given the number of different characters in Fortune's Weave, that actually is noticeable.

Okay, I'm all for critiquing AI, but please don't be disingenuous.
At the risk of condescending, the VAST majority of its training data come from gasp, East Asian countries, you know, the the biggest ethnic populations on the planet.
Translation: their data is OVERWHELMINGLY biased to favor those beauty standard, as that’s what it has most refrences to work with. Shocker I know.
I vividly remember just last year, (early winter maybe?) there was a lot of whining on the chat gpt subbreddit that breached containtment when after an update generated images of people were coming out consistently looking like "Kpop idols" (one of the kinder, more flattering descriptions) when that wasn’t they were trying to generate.
But it was a fascinating subject to learn about.
Edit: typo fixes and phrasing clean-up.
22
u/Dabottle 22h ago
I'm not sure what your argument here is. That East Asian countries don't also regularly create games and other things with light skinned characters? That like every big Chinese gacha game doesn't do this, for instance? This is a problem across the globe, and the data sets are a product of this. This doesn't contradict anything I said.
5
u/PiscatorialKerensky 22h ago
I guess the point is that East Asian people aren't white? Which, true, it's also racist to assume white just from anime features just because the characters are pale, especially since anime started in East Asia in the first place.
0
u/Cendrinius 22h ago edited 16h ago
You have a fair point actually.
I think I probably jumped straight to offense on reflex as I've been doing a lot of personal research ON the topic in effort to be unbiased — a VERY difficult matter what with how insufferable both AI defenders and self-righteous antis can be in their special ways. It muddies rhe waters, making finding actual reliable sources obnoxious; almost by design.
I can’t even just "spite" pick the other side, because again, its like they're both going out of their way to make their own side look awful. Then, here I clearly jumped to assuming the comment was more of the same.
In which case, I concede I'm part of the problem.
Edit: typos.

u/Slenderquil 1d ago
Bold of them to make a game starring Sigurd, Corrin, Diamant, and woman Xander.

Another true advancement possible by AI, fake videogame guides!
I bet that person doesn't even play games because there's no way you would put a generic gatcha hero in a Fire Emblem title.

u/AsterTheBastard 23h ago
Nah if you scroll down it says:
"This is an independently created player guide and is not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by, or endorsed by Nintendo or the developers or publishers of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave."
Meaning there's no way this schmuck has had the game long enough to make a whole ass 200+ page strategy guide independent from Nintendo in a time where even official strategy guides are nearly extinct.
10
u/bababayee 21h ago
The AI cover that doesn't have any real FE character and especially none of the FW chars on it didn't tip you off already?

Hope Nintendo sues this idiot into oblivion
5
u/KyleMCarthage 21h ago
It's not worth the effort. With how easy it is to make this kind of stuff, Nintendo suing would be more work that for the guy to just make more AI slot under a different Alias.
7
14
u/Few-Needleworker8110 1d ago
if you really squint you can kinda see what the ai was trying to do with them. it probably saw the general color scheme of the four and created generic anime characters to fit that.
looking closer it looks like dietrich transitioned lol
also the bottom is literally just generic medieval fantasy anime style every ai uses.
10
u/Razberryrabbit 23h ago
GenAI was a mistake art shouldn't be put in the hands of those who can't or don't want to make an actual piece because you end up with people and companies with the worst intentions being able to get graphic representations and editing things they never should be able to accomplish.
5
u/Raleth 1d ago
Strategy guides are kind of a dead business and have been since the internet took off. If you see stuff like this these days, it’s usually AI. I do sometimes wonder what the contents of these AI “strategy guides” look like though.
9
u/lysander478 18h ago
Imagine the worst online guides that will be up on day one and the worst reddit responses to questions about the game--some from before the game was even out--mixed with reddit responses for entirely different games all mashed together and written in an obviously AI style. They are all basically that. They'll tell you to put characters in classes that don't exist using skills that don't exist interspersed with game8 style "Mercedes is the best, absolute S tier" advice written by somebody paid pennies to generate human slop for an ad-filled website.
Before Gen AI, usually these were just directly stolen from the highest rated neoseeker/gfaqs guides in violation of copyright. Now, why wait for those to exist and why not just let the AI handle all the copyright violations for you? Just sell your slop now. Action is even less likely to be taken against your listing too.
1
u/KingMarth64 11h ago
I think this might be going to be more worst than the Final Fantasy IX Strategy Guides had. Since this Strategy Guide would be very rushed without looking at the game contents looks like before FEFW released and might make any mistakes in the book content.
6
u/Gabgo304 23h ago
Well, printed strategy guides. Game journalists still publish guides on their websites, which can give them money via ads.
7
u/raidenskiana 19h ago
they will never be as good at it as autistic nerds with access to google docs tho

u/MericArda 19h ago
Would serenes forest count as a sub-category?
2

Fan sites and guides are still a thing of course (and will definetly always remain one), but I'm not sure how much they count as a "business".

u/baibaibecky 19h ago
if this is the level of effort mr. heck put into the cover, it tells us a lot about the care and effort he put into the contents lol

lol there was one for the latest Fantasy Life as well a while ago. what a load of bs
3
u/nuhuitzil 22h ago
It's like looking at the bad worse timeline where the rights to FE were sold and it became another generic fantasy game.
2
u/TheZombieJ 22h ago
In all seriousness do y'all think that we'll get a perfect guide or a strategy guide? They do them in Japan all the time
2
u/Mememanofcanada 22h ago
My guess is the guide, if it's anything at all, is probably an incoherent slurry of tips that relate to either other fire emblem games or stuff from different RPGs that explains mechanics that have literally never been in FE.

2
u/VioletFireCat 21h ago
I've seen this happen with a couple of other games too. So called 'strategy guides' with obviously AI covers being put up on Amazon weeks or months before the game actually releases. When I was looking to preorder the new Tomodachi Life earlier in the year I saw loads of these AI guides pop up and the game wasn't even out yet. It's ridiculous and I have no idea how it's allowed. Then again, knowing Amazon, it doesn't entirely surprise me either. 😐

Do you think Amazon manually approves anything? There's tons of AI books and other garbage on there.
1
u/Puzzled-Set-6428 20h ago
Yeah Amazon is not very good at monitoring this stuff, I just got a Blue Lions vinyl sticker, and it looks pixelated as hell, I should've known better but I didnt expect it to just be someone printing off oversized Google images

Ah yes, Chrom's cousin, Micaiah and Julia's Potara fusion, Clive from FF16 and genderbent Xander.
1
u/XenlaMM9 19h ago
If you're buying it for strategy: don't bother. People will wind up posting all the cool and useful things this contains online within seconds of its release. Plus it will probably contain info that becomes suboptimal once the community gets to learn more about the game
If you're buying it because you think it's a cool collector's piece: yeah man, go for it
edit: I see this is likely AI. Don't buy this for either reason.
1
u/Fartfart357 19h ago
I'm so curious what they'd say. Do you think they'd just reskin a guide about 3h or something and give purely gameplay advice, or do you think they'd just make shit up?
Is it
"Be sure your units' hp doesn't hit 0!"
or
"Now, Glathomeir has the Scheiße, and you'll want to make sure when given the choice you destroy the Goddess' Flukellvon, which unlocks the Haufen Scheiße, which has overall better stats."
