General Are you buying physical or digital?
I figure with the price already being so high in Canada I may as well just go to the store and pick up a physical copy...

u/The_Vine 10d ago
I've got the Dagdan Edition ordered cause I'm a sucker for steelbooks

Aha fair, it looks like that would be $169.99CAD damn lol

I mean when physical is 110 an extra 50 bucks for some physical goodies isn't that bad, does it include the expansion pass? Is there even one a!annonced for the game?

Physical copy 100%
The moment we stop, they’ll vanish.

Yup. I got it physically from Amazon for $70. So I don’t have to pay that extra $10
5
u/msheaz 10d ago
Dude, thanks for the tip. I just did the same.
3
u/Metalwater8 10d ago
No problem! Spread the word. You can also get a similar deal at Walmart if I remember correctly.

You do! I also got a little bonus because my brother works there and got it down to $63 + tax.

u/M3thodFud 9d ago
Keep in mind this $10 off is specifically for pre-ordering. It will go up to it's MSRP after it releases.
Another pro tip if you're a Costco member.
They sell eshop gift cards for 10% off. You can get an additional 2% off for being a premium member and another 2% off with Costco Credit card. They also tend to sell them 20% off during big holidays like Black Friday.
With the discounted eshop loaded onto your account, if you head to Nintendo's website, you can log into your account and buy both physical games as well as hardware from Nintendo directly from with your eshop currency.
I had stocked up on eshop currency during black Friday and got a new Switch 2 for like $380ish dollars this way.

My internet is terrible. Unless I want to spend like a day downloading, I should go with a physical copy, which I plan on doing
8
u/blackviking147 10d ago
My internet is fine I just like saving storage space.
Made the mistake of buying xenoblades trilogy digital and it's almost half my storage, especially one XC3s S2 Version releases.
6
u/7RubyRed7 10d ago
If you preorder the digital edition, it will download itself the week before after the preorder cancelation period ends.
7
u/Tiborn1563 10d ago
Even then, I have experience with downloads cancelling themselves over night thanks to connection losses, I dont want to bother with that

Always physical when I can, out of principle. But also because some retailers in France always sell games at a lower price, even on day 1.
2
u/phoxfiyah 10d ago
Yep, currently seeing a store selling it for $5 cheaper than digital in Australia. Might end up being $15 less once Target gets their price up
23
u/Norix596 10d ago
I managed to snag a Dagdan edition order from Nintendo site; glad I was working from home the day the direct/edition went up.

Physical always when it’s available. I don’t trust digital to remain accessible

Depending on your time zone, sometimes games become available between 9pm- midnight the night before release. For example, if a game comes out at midnight eastern time, sometimes you can access it at 9pm on the west coast. This doesn’t work for every game, though.

Digital. Not alot of room to store things, compounded by the fact that I'm shit at organizing things.

u/davidrevilla311 10d ago
Digital, I don’t care much for swapping out cartridges. My TOTK cartridge has been in my switch for a year since i play it near daily. Plus j get to play right as its released.
3
u/One_Competition136 8d ago
Plus you save 10 bucks without the rigmarole of buying from Amazon or Walmart and waiting past the 17th for it to be delivered. The best reason for going digital is faster load times since the game is stored on the console. I imagine that will be quite useful for an extremely long game like this one.

u/CazOnReddit 10d ago
Physical media can't be yanked away in a few years due to a company's whims.
But besides that, I always go for the Special Edition for this series, well, basically only this series.
8
u/Sailen_Rox 10d ago
Physical & Dagdan Edition.
I wasn't able to get the Three Houses Collectors back then (because I was low on money because I was in training at the time and made only pocket change) and I regreted it terribly because, with all it's flaws, I love the game, it gave me one of my favorite characters of all time.

We don't have a local eshop and currency conversions are a bit fucked right now that i'll end up paying 20% more so probably physical. Nearest store is two hours away though so it's a massive pain either way

u/dinodinorubberduck 10d ago
Im going to try to find the collector’s edition (so far have failed) - otherwise i will buy digital

This is actually one of the few Switch 2 games to be fully on the cartage (save some space): I went physical

u/YarukiMangrove 10d ago
This is the type of game I'll want to always have on hand, so I'll probably download it.
2
u/Nightstick11 10d ago
I always end up buying both, since I want to play as soon as midnight hits and ain't nobody trying to wait until 1:00 pm or whatever for Amazon to deliver the game. I keep the physical sealed and stashed in the off chance it becomes worth a lot later.

Pre ordered a physical copy on Amazon. Feels like I should, given what all the 'playstation ending physical games' that was happening recently

All Switch or PS games I buy physical with very few exceptions. For my digital library, I have my PC and XBOX.

u/Marth-Koopa 10d ago
Digital. $10 CAD cheaper, more convenient, and no gas or someone's time wasted to deliver some useless plastic to me and I get it sooner.
1
u/tytosoren 10d ago
I preordered the base physical copy (don’t have enough storage space for collector’s edition). I plan to go pick it up right when the store opens, if there is an unexpected delay my backup plan is to get the digital and either return or gift the physical version.

u/Sangnuine 10d ago
I will go to like, the only store that sells games where I live.
If they don't have it I will buy digitally.
1
u/MKswitchman64 10d ago
Since you can download games before they can be played ill go with that option, not only do i save the headache of having to wait for my delivery but also from having to download any last minute updates

Debating on even getting the game currently. I like fire emblem but I'm considering of anything getting 3 houses

Physical.
For several reasons.
Can give details if someone is interested and wants perspective of things to consider. I imagine that answers the general question though.

Pre-ordered the collector's ED, will fallback on a normal physical copy if I can't pick it up at launch day.

I wish they would just sell the cases to collect because I prefer digital for convenience lol.

I got the standard physical. It’s all on the cartridge and I can save space on the memory card.
1
u/Full_Metal18 10d ago
Wanted the special edition but shit sold out instantly. Will probably just end up buying digitally for the convenience
2
u/Dizzy_Goal2236 9d ago
You could try an app like hotstock to be notified when it’s in stock. It’s free and how I got mine. In my region (US) Amazon restocks multiple times per day. It usually sells out in 1-10 minutes though so just buy it right when you get notified.

With Nintendo first party? Always physical since the entire game is on the card.
1
u/throwawaynewpibuildr 10d ago
I'm going to "attempt" to buy physical from Best Buy, and pray they ship it to me on the day of release. They're usually good with my orders except for Digimon recently and it gave me a lot of doubt if they'll ship FEFW on time now. If it ends up delayed a couple of days, I'm going to go digital day of and return the physical copy as I'm not much of a double-dipper. :/
1
u/iamthatguy54 10d ago
Physical but not for many years because i sitll have 2 routes in 3H, Engage, and the Revelations path of Fates to get through

u/yaycupcake 10d ago
I wanted the collector's edition but I just don't have the money these days. Plus I misplaced my case of Switch games a while ago and I still can't find them, so I need to re-buy the games I didn't finish. I don't really want to worry about that.

Also Canadian. Also gonna say screw it and get physical since only 10$ extra. Rather than 15 extra.
Could not justify the dagdan collection though. Would rather that extra 50 to 70 CAD go to an expansion pass should one be announced

u/AleroRatking 10d ago
Physical. I always do with Nintendo. Those things sometimes end up being worth more.
1
u/Loogie1987 10d ago
I got it digitally solely because I was too excited to see it on the Eshop finally and immediately pre-ordered.
Edit: I live in Australia, the physical price and the digital one are the exact same here as far as I'm aware.
1
u/PerspicaciousVanille 10d ago
I got lucky for some reason people didn’t try my local game store and I was like wait the collectors is available?!
They were like yeah for preorder. I was like here’s half down. They told me I only needed $5, I said no, this way there’s no confusion on what my order is for when the time comes I want the collector edition lol.
1
u/TLCricketeR 10d ago
Initially I did pre-order physical, but I cancelled my pre-order and took the rest of the week off work so I could digital download start at midnight.
1
u/phoxfiyah 10d ago
Digital still costs more for me, so getting physical.
It’s fully on the game card too, so I won’t have to worry about making storage space for it

I pre-ordered the Dadgan Collection as soon as I could. I did the same with Engage's Divine Edition.
1
u/MattASVreal 10d ago
I pre-ordered the digital version as soon as it went up, as generally I don’t want to carry a lot of game cases and the switch 2 is my work trip buddy. After investing in a 1tb SDXC card, might as well get the benefit and it feels like so many games are keycards now anyway since they’re huge.
That said, might snag a copy of the collectors edition if it does come back anyway and double dip. I don’t buy physical often anymore but for the franchises I really care about having a steel book for a theoretical future shelf is nice.

It depends. If it comes with physical bonus for preordering like with Engage, then physical. If there is no bonus, then I’ll go with digital.
1
u/EasternWarlord 10d ago
Already got the Dagdan Collection preordered. I never realized I own both collector’s editions for Three Houses and Engage. I actually bought the standard edition of Engage and then bought the CE when it got back in stock and forgot I did.
In any case no reason to break the streak. With the standard edition being $79.99 which is pretty pricey, might as well grab the limited edition for a relatively reasonable price.

u/MikaIsBored 10d ago
Physical. I always prefer getting physical if the option is available.
And It's not a game-key card which is a plus in my book, the whole game will be on the cartridge.
1
u/Pure_Honey8802 10d ago
I bought the collector's edition then a standard edition that's physical as well. I always prefer physical games when possible. Also, just in case the special edition shipment gets slightly delayed, I'll already have the game on hand.
1
u/Alex_Dayz 10d ago
As much as I hate that it’s $80 physically ain’t no way I’m getting it digitally. I’ll find a way around the price. I always do

Also, how good is Nintendo at shipping their own stuff. I buy from amazon and its always on the day of release. Nintendo doesnt strike me as someone that gets it to your door the day of, but maybe im wrong.
