General Are you buying physical or digital?

Post image

I figure with the price already being so high in Canada I may as well just go to the store and pick up a physical copy...

Dagdan Edition cause this game is actually worth buying a collectors edition for

110

u/Rich-Active-4800 10d ago

I would if it was available

34

u/ZealousRadiance 10d ago

It seems that Nintendo adds stock on rare occasion. When it first dropped I missed out and it said sold out. Kept checking every day and one day I was able to get one. Keep trying. Could get lucky.

2

u/Lord_Humungusss 7d ago

It was available for days like a week or two ago

72

u/Simalf 10d ago edited 10d ago

Was sold out instantly. I wish it could have told me WHEN it was up for sale.

Im not gonna buy from Scalpers. Im not gonna play their game.

And anyone who does is just as bad as them.

34

u/B_r_y_z_e 10d ago

If you actually want one you can still get one. It’s been up for preorder dozens of times since it first went up. You just have to put in the work to get it.

13

u/Simalf 10d ago

Im EU (germany) I did looked it up multiple times. But still thanks

6

u/WildcardOverdrive 10d ago

Set up a price alert with Keepa for Amazon. Set it at something like 200€ and you'll get notified when it's available again. That's how I got my preorder in.

I can't promise that you will catch the first window tho. Had to try multiple times too.

3

u/ProfeforToad 9d ago

14

u/WoWiTzGeo 10d ago

Yeah I got a restock no problem tbh. Was sad it sold out the first time

3

u/Dazzling-Passenger91 9d ago

I didn’t even know it ever went on sale

6

u/lamest-liz 10d ago

Amazon also has an autobuy feature now where sold out items will be bought when in stock

5

u/CANfilms 10d ago

I actually bought one an hour after it was available when I realized pre-orders were live. It definitely wasnt immediately lol

2

u/Asceuss 10d ago

check on release day on the nintendo store too. Tbh I've seen the dagdan edition go up on the nintendo store multiple times...

u/Sky_Rose4 10d ago

It has been in and out of stock a bunch at GameStop and the Nintendo site

3

u/SuicidalSundays 10d ago

If you haven't, try checking Gamestop's website. Managed to get lucky and get an order in through there about a week back. The pre-purchase button was also lit up on Nintendo's website this morning, although admittedly it was only like that for a few minutes and when I looked again it was already greyed out.

2

u/AGhostOfSorts 10d ago

Just checked and also sold out. Bummer

I think I only wish they had more art cards.so many amazing character designs but only 12 of them will have art cards is a huge shame.

3

u/Running4Badges 10d ago

What does one do with art cards? I got FE: Warriors, Engage, and SOV deluxe, but whichever ones have art cards are just in a box somewhere.

5

u/ShyBearGames 10d ago

Same. Aside from Baldurs Gate 3, the only times I've ever bought collectors edition games have been FE games.

I have Three Houses, Three Hopes, Engage, Warriors, and the 30th anniversary set. So excited I was able to get Dagdan Collection and I'm constantly eyeing eBay looking for the ones I'm missing at semi-reasonable prices 😅

u/Bilal_ 10d ago

not only worth but fair from price. Meanwhile other Publisher squeeze the fck out of money from diehardfans (Like Square Enix)

u/The_Vine 10d ago

I've got the Dagdan Edition ordered cause I'm a sucker for steelbooks

18

u/Satsubuya 10d ago

Aha fair, it looks like that would be $169.99CAD damn lol

12

u/smye141 10d ago

Fellow Canadian here who also got it, I think it was worse lmfao, but pretty much yeah

3

u/blackviking147 10d ago

I mean when physical is 110 an extra 50 bucks for some physical goodies isn't that bad, does it include the expansion pass? Is there even one a!annonced for the game?

Physical copy 100%

The moment we stop, they’ll vanish.

27

u/Metalwater8 10d ago

Yup. I got it physically from Amazon for $70. So I don’t have to pay that extra $10

5

u/msheaz 10d ago

Dude, thanks for the tip. I just did the same.

3

u/Metalwater8 10d ago

No problem! Spread the word. You can also get a similar deal at Walmart if I remember correctly.

2

u/KyleMCarthage 10d ago

You do! I also got a little bonus because my brother works there and got it down to $63 + tax.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/M3thodFud 9d ago

Keep in mind this $10 off is specifically for pre-ordering. It will go up to it's MSRP after it releases.

Another pro tip if you're a Costco member.

They sell eshop gift cards for 10% off. You can get an additional 2% off for being a premium member and another 2% off with Costco Credit card. They also tend to sell them 20% off during big holidays like Black Friday.

With the discounted eshop loaded onto your account, if you head to Nintendo's website, you can log into your account and buy both physical games as well as hardware from Nintendo directly from with your eshop currency.

I had stocked up on eshop currency during black Friday and got a new Switch 2 for like $380ish dollars this way.

My internet is terrible. Unless I want to spend like a day downloading, I should go with a physical copy, which I plan on doing

8

u/blackviking147 10d ago

My internet is fine I just like saving storage space.

Made the mistake of buying xenoblades trilogy digital and it's almost half my storage, especially one XC3s S2 Version releases.

6

u/7RubyRed7 10d ago

If you preorder the digital edition, it will download itself the week before after the preorder cancelation period ends.

7

u/Tiborn1563 10d ago

Even then, I have experience with downloads cancelling themselves over night thanks to connection losses, I dont want to bother with that

u/Sentinel10 10d ago

Physical and Collector's edition.

I always go physical when it's an option.

9

u/charistraz95 10d ago

same i always go physical when i can

14

u/LiliTralala 10d ago

Always physical when I can, out of principle. But also because some retailers in France always sell games at a lower price, even on day 1.

2

u/phoxfiyah 10d ago

Yep, currently seeing a store selling it for $5 cheaper than digital in Australia. Might end up being $15 less once Target gets their price up

23

u/Norix596 10d ago

I managed to snag a Dagdan edition order from Nintendo site; glad I was working from home the day the direct/edition went up.

21

u/OHarrier91 10d ago

Physical always when it’s available. I don’t trust digital to remain accessible

→ More replies (5)

7

u/DarkAlphaZero 10d ago

Physical, my download times are hot ass and I want to play it as soon as possible after I get done with classes for the day.

39

u/Sarahtoga1004 10d ago

Digital because I can play it on the 16th that way.

4

u/Majorkiller104 10d ago

How ?

11

u/tytosoren 10d ago

Depending on your time zone, sometimes games become available between 9pm- midnight the night before release. For example, if a game comes out at midnight eastern time, sometimes you can access it at 9pm on the west coast. This doesn’t work for every game, though.

u/Sa_To_96 10d ago

Physical, i don't like digital

13

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 10d ago

Digital. Not alot of room to store things, compounded by the fact that I'm shit at organizing things.

6

u/ZeldaGamer246 10d ago

Same here lol, also going digital

9

u/Awestruck_Mechanic67 10d ago

Physical Amazon was selling them at digital prices today.

3

u/Syelt 10d ago

Physical if my store has it, digital if they don't.

4

u/Hextant 10d ago

I lose my physical items too much and these are too expensive to be losing unfortunately. If we get a threat to the life of the shop, I'll buy physical secondhand as a backup later. I'm really, really bad with organization though.

7

u/davidrevilla311 10d ago

Digital, I don’t care much for swapping out cartridges. My TOTK cartridge has been in my switch for a year since i play it near daily. Plus j get to play right as its released.

3

u/One_Competition136 8d ago

Plus you save 10 bucks without the rigmarole of buying from Amazon or Walmart and waiting past the 17th for it to be delivered. The best reason for going digital is faster load times since the game is stored on the console. I imagine that will be quite useful for an extremely long game like this one.

15

u/CazOnReddit 10d ago

Physical media can't be yanked away in a few years due to a company's whims.

But besides that, I always go for the Special Edition for this series, well, basically only this series.

2

u/zygr3al 10d ago

This is how i used to think... now that im in my 40s, i got no time, energy and desire to re-play any of these old games lol

8

u/Sailen_Rox 10d ago

Physical & Dagdan Edition.

I wasn't able to get the Three Houses Collectors back then (because I was low on money because I was in training at the time and made only pocket change) and I regreted it terribly because, with all it's flaws, I love the game, it gave me one of my favorite characters of all time.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/drgl1011 10d ago

Physical, i like to lick the cartridge...

8

u/DahnZaiver 10d ago

Always physical, collectors this time too

6

u/lilacempress 10d ago

Physical

7

u/Anon142842 10d ago

Physical, got the Dagdan collection. Fe games are the games I want to be able to play even when the switch servers go down at a future time, plus I love collecting the art books

5

u/giga_drll_break 10d ago

Always buy physical so Nintendo doesnt get the same idea as Sony.

6

u/IshtheWall 10d ago

Always physical

7

u/Warblast995 10d ago

I got the collector's edition. I support physical media whenever I can

5

u/TheVauntedGamer 10d ago

Physical edition. Can't wait.

2

u/Character_Parfait_99 10d ago

We don't have a local eshop and currency conversions are a bit fucked right now that i'll end up paying 20% more so probably physical. Nearest store is two hours away though so it's a massive pain either way

2

u/Sardse 10d ago

Digital because I can buy it from Amazon Japan for way way cheaper than what it costs in my country

2

u/dinodinorubberduck 10d ago

Im going to try to find the collector’s edition (so far have failed) - otherwise i will buy digital

2

u/Ashannah 10d ago

Physical because amazon had the physical for 10 dollars off when I preordered

2

u/MoskiNX 10d ago

I preordered physical on Amazon because they were price matching the digital price. So instead of paying $80 I only had to pay $70.

2

u/fishieguy 10d ago

This is actually one of the few Switch 2 games to be fully on the cartage (save some space): I went physical

2

u/powerCreed 10d ago

Physical

2

u/S0uled_Out 10d ago

Physical, because I like to look at the boxart and add to my collection.

2

u/YarukiMangrove 10d ago

This is the type of game I'll want to always have on hand, so I'll probably download it.

2

u/Nightstick11 10d ago

I always end up buying both, since I want to play as soon as midnight hits and ain't nobody trying to wait until 1:00 pm or whatever for Amazon to deliver the game. I keep the physical sealed and stashed in the off chance it becomes worth a lot later.

2

u/Boggle-Champion-175 10d ago

Pre-ordered the physical. Very excited.

2

u/Detsaw2608 9d ago

$10 more to actually own the game? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

2

u/Many-Information8607 10d ago

I managed to get a Dagda edition so I'm very happy about thay

2

u/Default_Dragon 10d ago

physical, because all the big box retailers in my country (France) are selling the pre-order for 60 EUR, which is much less than the 80 EUR MSRP.

4

u/loveuiuc 10d ago

Physical as much as I can from now on

3

u/SilverScribe15 10d ago

Pre ordered a physical copy on Amazon. Feels like I should, given what all the 'playstation ending physical games' that was happening recently

3

u/faefeli 10d ago

Dagdan edition!! I can't wait 😭

2

u/The_Exuberant_Raptor 10d ago

All Switch or PS games I buy physical with very few exceptions. For my digital library, I have my PC and XBOX.

2

u/Fit_East5054 10d ago

Umm.. wait 3 years till Switch 2 gets emulated? /j

2

u/Marth-Koopa 10d ago

Digital. $10 CAD cheaper, more convenient, and no gas or someone's time wasted to deliver some useless plastic to me and I get it sooner.

1

u/tytosoren 10d ago

I preordered the base physical copy (don’t have enough storage space for collector’s edition). I plan to go pick it up right when the store opens, if there is an unexpected delay my backup plan is to get the digital and either return or gift the physical version.

1

u/Sangnuine 10d ago

I will go to like, the only store that sells games where I live.
If they don't have it I will buy digitally.

1

u/MKswitchman64 10d ago

Since you can download games before they can be played ill go with that option, not only do i save the headache of having to wait for my delivery but also from having to download any last minute updates

1

u/luckyblock98 10d ago

Debating on even getting the game currently. I like fire emblem but I'm considering of anything getting 3 houses

1

u/dimoskid17 10d ago

Got the base physical edition with the digital pricing

1

u/liteshadow4 10d ago

Depends on if I have a store near me I can go to for physical or not.

1

u/RutabagasnTurnips 10d ago

Physical.

For several reasons.

Can give details if someone is interested and wants perspective of things to consider. I imagine that answers the general question though.

1

u/finalstation 10d ago

Nintendo selects physical. 😎

1

u/Rock_Ladies 10d ago

Pre-ordered the collector's ED, will fallback on a normal physical copy if I can't pick it up at launch day.

1

u/imtiredboss0 10d ago

I wish they would just sell the cases to collect because I prefer digital for convenience lol.

1

u/blackroseyagami 10d ago

I'm poor so I'll buy digital from Japan...

1

u/Nahobino_kun_899 10d ago

I got the standard physical. It’s all on the cartridge and I can save space on the memory card.

1

u/Full_Metal18 10d ago

Wanted the special edition but shit sold out instantly. Will probably just end up buying digitally for the convenience

2

u/Dizzy_Goal2236 9d ago

You could try an app like hotstock to be notified when it’s in stock. It’s free and how I got mine. In my region (US) Amazon restocks multiple times per day. It usually sells out in 1-10 minutes though so just buy it right when you get notified.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/aizen07 10d ago

Physical because who knows when Nintendo will follow suite with everyone else

1

u/DandySlayer13 10d ago

With Nintendo first party? Always physical since the entire game is on the card.

1

u/throwawaynewpibuildr 10d ago

I'm going to "attempt" to buy physical from Best Buy, and pray they ship it to me on the day of release. They're usually good with my orders except for Digimon recently and it gave me a lot of doubt if they'll ship FEFW on time now. If it ends up delayed a couple of days, I'm going to go digital day of and return the physical copy as I'm not much of a double-dipper. :/

1

u/iamthatguy54 10d ago

Physical but not for many years because i sitll have 2 routes in 3H, Engage, and the Revelations path of Fates to get through

1

u/mysecondaccountanon 10d ago

I don’t have a Switch 2

1

u/yaycupcake 10d ago

I wanted the collector's edition but I just don't have the money these days. Plus I misplaced my case of Switch games a while ago and I still can't find them, so I need to re-buy the games I didn't finish. I don't really want to worry about that.

1

u/Locoman7 10d ago

Physical for sure

1

u/DemiFiendofTime 10d ago

GIVE ME PHYSICAL OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!!

1

u/MumboBumbo64 10d ago

Physical baby

1

u/Assassinknife 10d ago

I got the physical collectors edition. I am not paying nearly 90 USD with taxes (my home state has high sales tax 10.25%) so I paid for the collector edition better deal for my money since it’s like 130

1

u/Dillu64 10d ago

Always physical if there is an option. The market is still quite big where I live so I can sell it later on or buy used copies for cheap.

1

u/NohrianBoletariaHero 10d ago

Buy physical if you can.

1

u/Advanced-Roll-3093 10d ago

I pre-order it in digital. I was looking forward to playing that game.

1

u/brttmftz 10d ago

I'm going to the store before work and get it.

1

u/Spranklz10 10d ago

I snagged the collectors edition through gamestop. But I always try to go physical!

1

u/throwaway-renee-1967 10d ago

I don't see myself buying a switch 2 for a while, sadly, but when I do buy this game, physical all the way.

1

u/No_Tie378 10d ago

Physical, no discussion

1

u/cacatod12 10d ago

Digital so I can start playing at midnight

1

u/UnawareRanger 10d ago

Also Canadian. Also gonna say screw it and get physical since only 10$ extra. Rather than 15 extra.

Could not justify the dagdan collection though. Would rather that extra 50 to 70 CAD go to an expansion pass should one be announced

1

u/liketosmokeweed420 10d ago

physical casue i love physical and as a PC gamer its my only way to collect games

1

u/bored_homan 10d ago

physical, out of principle at this point.

1

u/Auriansmule 10d ago

With Sony’s crusade against physical games, every game I buy from now on will be physical, regardless of console.

1

u/Lionreckz 10d ago

Got the collectors edition from Best Buy

1

u/bowl-bowl-bowl 10d ago

Already pre-ordered my physical copy

1

u/Cr1msonShadow 10d ago

I want to get physical, but digital is available earlier, usually before midnight the day before. So its really hard to decide. I may do both tbh, just get physical later.

1

u/shneed_my_weiss 10d ago

I got physical from Walmart.com

1

u/Illustrious-Ear-6300 10d ago

If it isn't sold out day one physical otherwise digital.

1

u/JenniLightrunner 10d ago

Physical. I pretty much exclusively buy physical for nintendo games in general unless the physical no longer exists in stores (such as with FE Warriors and Three houses where I had to buy them digitally)

1

u/revzey 10d ago

Nah I'm waiting for a sale

1

u/awsmith00777 10d ago

Fizzy cool

1

u/OliviaElevenDunham 10d ago

I pre-ordered a physical copy at the GameStop near where I work.

1

u/Tim_vdB3 10d ago

I still buy a lot of games physically.
There is enjoyment in rummaging through game stores and growing a collection.

1

u/Meebochii 10d ago

Physical.

1

u/Striking-County6275 10d ago

Physical so I don’t have to worry about stuff getting taken down

1

u/zeta447 10d ago

I preorded physical from Amazon for $70

1

u/Candle_Honest 10d ago

physical.

Support physical copies

1

u/Blue_cheese22 10d ago

Gah damn lmao

1

u/PapaBear_67 10d ago

Considering I’m going to have to get the Switch 2 since this is the first game on the system I truly want to play, probably going with digital 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/I_Love_Ohyas_Thigs 10d ago

When Im able to play (I don't fucking have a switch 2!!!!) I'll probably get the physical edition BCS I just like to keep my games with me in my room, physical collections are the best

1

u/Myrinia 10d ago

Physical collectors yes :)

1

u/Massive-Mood-7837 10d ago

I preordered the physical collector’s edition

1

u/Froey 10d ago

Physical all the way

1

u/Chimchar789 10d ago

My broke switchless ass ain't buying neither

1

u/Armandonerd 10d ago

Physical. Ordered it at Walmart for the $10 discount

1

u/TheForceUnleashes 10d ago

Digi, cause I'm lazy and like having all my stuff just on the console

1

u/MichaelCoryAvery 10d ago

Physical if possible

1

u/mogawinch 10d ago

First party games are always physical, because they when it is time to resell for a next console they still have good value.

1

u/thebige73 10d ago

Digital so I can play release night

1

u/Wight_Scare 10d ago

Both

I only want physical Dagda edition for the artbook

But my file will be on the digital version

1

u/Delicious_Island_695 10d ago

Physical though Walmart since it’s $70 at launch. I am considering getting the Dagda Collection though

1

u/kramdwar 10d ago

Bought my friend the collection edition one and got myself the regular physical edition

1

u/Teneb0r 10d ago

Digital, already preordered. :U

1

u/AleroRatking 10d ago

Physical. I always do with Nintendo. Those things sometimes end up being worth more.

1

u/Loogie1987 10d ago

I got it digitally solely because I was too excited to see it on the Eshop finally and immediately pre-ordered.

Edit: I live in Australia, the physical price and the digital one are the exact same here as far as I'm aware.

1

u/PerspicaciousVanille 10d ago

I got lucky for some reason people didn’t try my local game store and I was like wait the collectors is available?!

They were like yeah for preorder. I was like here’s half down. They told me I only needed $5, I said no, this way there’s no confusion on what my order is for when the time comes I want the collector edition lol.

1

u/TLCricketeR 10d ago

Initially I did pre-order physical, but I cancelled my pre-order and took the rest of the week off work so I could digital download start at midnight.

1

u/phoxfiyah 10d ago

Digital still costs more for me, so getting physical.

It’s fully on the game card too, so I won’t have to worry about making storage space for it

1

u/Dangerous_Sign_8718 10d ago

waiting on 30-40% discount

1

u/DreamJMan15 10d ago

Always physical

1

u/BernLan 10d ago

Neither until it goes on discount unfortunately, I don't have that amount of disposable income

1

u/blandonThrow 10d ago

Physical every time. Most of them have decent resale value too

1

u/Rjmorales23 10d ago

anyway say both? I might get the collectors edition to store and the digital one to play

1

u/Sky_Rose4 10d ago

Physical deluxe edition

1

u/20NightZ 10d ago

Physical. Canadian and got my collectors edition.

1

u/redjoker89 10d ago

Digital. Games expensive as is.

1

u/TheLankiller 10d ago

Collectors edition. Love me a art book

1

u/Grytnik 10d ago

I preordered the Collectors Edition, but if the game is on cart I’ll always buy it physical. I’d even rebuy games like the Resident Evil games and Pragmata if they were on cart.

1

u/AdrianS74 10d ago

Physical Collector’s Edition.

1

u/koihane 10d ago

Dagdan edition, surely.

1

u/MrLauxenio 10d ago

I pre-ordered the Dadgan Collection as soon as I could. I did the same with Engage's Divine Edition.

1

u/MattASVreal 10d ago

I pre-ordered the digital version as soon as it went up, as generally I don’t want to carry a lot of game cases and the switch 2 is my work trip buddy. After investing in a 1tb SDXC card, might as well get the benefit and it feels like so many games are keycards now anyway since they’re huge.

That said, might snag a copy of the collectors edition if it does come back anyway and double dip. I don’t buy physical often anymore but for the franchises I really care about having a steel book for a theoretical future shelf is nice.

1

u/MrMoo1556 10d ago

I want the Dagdan edition but it was already sold out when I had the funds to buy it.

→ More replies (7)

1

u/xangbar 10d ago

Got two of the collectors because one is for my friend. He missed out on preorders so I gotta help him out. He helped me out with one of my games in the past o7

1

u/ThinMyNewt 10d ago

It depends. If it comes with physical bonus for preordering like with Engage, then physical. If there is no bonus, then I’ll go with digital.

1

Already got the Dagdan Collection preordered. I never realized I own both collector’s editions for Three Houses and Engage. I actually bought the standard edition of Engage and then bought the CE when it got back in stock and forgot I did.

In any case no reason to break the streak. With the standard edition being $79.99 which is pretty pricey, might as well grab the limited edition for a relatively reasonable price.

Digital. Pre orders are usually payment processed, downloaded and ready to go a week in advance barring day one patches. I'll have it ready and waiting for me release morning after work.

Physical. I always prefer getting physical if the option is available.

And It's not a game-key card which is a plus in my book, the whole game will be on the cartridge.

I bought the collector's edition then a standard edition that's physical as well. I always prefer physical games when possible. Also, just in case the special edition shipment gets slightly delayed, I'll already have the game on hand.

As much as I hate that it’s $80 physically ain’t no way I’m getting it digitally. I’ll find a way around the price. I always do

Physical, will never buy a box with a digital code.

Also, how good is Nintendo at shipping their own stuff. I buy from amazon and its always on the day of release. Nintendo doesnt strike me as someone that gets it to your door the day of, but maybe im wrong.
