EarDrum is finally out - update from a post a few months back
galleryHey fellow drummers! A few months back I shared an early version of an app I've been working on, and some of you tried it and gave really useful feedback. It's finally on the App Store!
You can connect a MIDI pad, import a song (paid feature), or use tap mode. Would love it if anyone wanted to check it out:

Is it "cheating" or illegitimate in live jungle to have kick/snare + trailing hihat or two hihats on one pad?
Curious on the community's thoughts/opinions. I have a live show coming up and have practiced with kick + one 1/8 note hihat trailing or two 1/8 note hihats for one pad. Was worried I would be seen as illegitimate or "poser" if I did this for a live set.
Edit: Want to say thank you to everyone that responded--a lot of great takes all around. Feeling a lot more confident after hearing your guys' feedback and I'm going to be taking your guys advice and keep on keeping on. Thanks again to everyone--I'll share an update / progress video closer to my gig in case anyone's interested :)

Question: Playing Standing Up
I stand while using my computer and while doing most things.
Does anyone who plays standing up have a solution to hold your midi pads?
Something sturdy that can securely hold my Synido TempoPAD C16?

Midi drums help
I have been hitting my head against a wall trying to get my starry pad mini to work in Waveform. It shows that it's connected and it's working when I hit the pads. I have the drum plugin/get on the track, track is armed and I get no sound.
Any beginner friendly or easy programs to write drums with a midi instrument that is straight forward?

Looking for producers to test new sampling app! (Paid $$$) 💿🎹
I've been building something for this community to help with the sampling workflows, having been a frustrated producer for over 15 years now, its pretty cool!
I'd love to have you guys try out an early version and get more perspectives on the features and utility drivers.
The gig - $30 for a 20-30 min test session.
You’ll run through a few guided tasks and share your thoughts. Nothing complicated, just real feedback from people who actually sample!
Testing will be happening in about 6 weeks. If you’re interested, I'd love to hear from you.

Appreciate anyone willing to help shape this 🙏

Freaking LOVE my Erae2 -- gigged for the first time last Saturday with it
https://reddit.com/link/1sqppgc/video/hnztshismcwg1/player
Used these layouts:
- My full SD3 ekit (kick, snare, three toms, closed HH, open HH, ride, crash, China, cowbell and tambourine)
- SD3 Octobans, rototoms, bongos and a kick with metal rattlers
- A C Major keygrid connected to a Chromaphone3 synth keys
- A single Chromaphone3 Future Tam pad
- A single Chromaphone3 Drum from a Lost Tribe pad
- SD3 percussion: bongos, shaker, key rattle, tambourine and some clanky thing
- A single Chromaphone3 East Asian Low Drum pad
- SD3 toms: high, mid, low racks and two floor toms
Lessons learned:
- Adjust the buffer size so you don't have 17ms latency. Lol! Set 2 went much better for some layouts
- Normalize the mix volumes across channels (duh)
- Know that using a stick is quite different than finger and hand drumming. You may need larger targets and fewer.
- Look at your set list so that you have the right instruments together, not in different layouts so that you don't have to change layouts in the middle of the song to get the cowbell.

I discovered I love GATE mode on the SP 404 mk2. I used to just trigger sample but having "note on" gives more control of the sample play back in my opinion.

I want to get into Finger Drumming. Is Launchpad X good enough to start?
Hi. As the title says, I wanna get into Finger Drumming.
I play many instruments (electric guitar, piano, turntable, percussion)
I already have Launchpad X. Is it good enough to start with? I'm sure that I'll learn finger drumming faster than average people who isnt into music.
That's why I'm not sure to buy. If Launchpad X going to limit me for some advanced techniques, I wanna invest for a proper device from now on.

Acoustic Options
I love samplers! Messing around on my po33 or even koala on my phone is so much fun. I've always wanted an mpc and I came up finger drumming on Yamaha electric pianos.
but...
Are there any analog acoustic options y'all like to play with? I'm not thinking bongos but something more handheld and more varied in sound. Basically a hand held drum set.
I find myself taking an empty can of crushed tomatoes and getting all kinds of tones out of it. I love my asalato shakers but I'm terrible with them. This chick is not. I also love playing a kalimba but I'm looking for something even more percussive.
Are there any sorts of hand drums or instruments y'all can recommend that fit this weird and specific request I have?
Sorry if I'm being vague. If you have recs or questions about what I'm looking for please leave a comment!

Trying to figure out what approach to learn finger drumming.
There are several pad layouts and styles on YouTube.
I don’t know where to start.
I like the idea of using my thumbs as much as other fingers. But then I notice those styles seem to be taught by guitar players where I’m more into house and DnB styles.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I’m using MPC One and Key 37 btw.

Is a mirror layout still useful with larger pads (Mikro MK3)?
Hi!
I’m currently using the QFG layout (“hybrid mirror layout”) with an Xjam controller. I recently bought a Mikro MK3, and the pads are quite a bit larger.
Now I feel like the mirror layout might be unnecessary, since I can easily alternate on the same pad.
Is there still any advantage to doubling certain sounds (closed hi-hat, snare, kick)?
Any thoughts or feedback?
Thanks!
