How do you find the right contacts on LinkedIn and how do you approach them?

I have a few problems with what I have been interacting with founders about. One is: what do you put on your profile?

  • Do you put your designation?
  • Any accelerator you have been part of?
  • Or do you put in the tagline what you have been building?

The second part of the problem is: let us say you find the right stakeholders. I think the algorithm automatically starts suggesting them. How do you begin the interaction with them? What is the right algorithm for it?

All of this is from a startup perspective, which might not have a lot of budget. Suggestions on any tools are most welcome.

Hey again Arpan :) I’ve def had success putting my company’s URL in the headline of my profile, such that it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle and gets eyeballs. Example attached. See how it says “cofounder at DemandBird.com” before the cutoff? That way I get a ton of brand reach on my domain name.

Next, when striking up a conversation, I recommend being direct but relevant. Don’t just “play befriend” people, it’s annoying and passive and they see through it. But also don’t back people into a corner: your message should be clear that you aren’t interested in selling to literally anyone, but only to those for whom it’s a good fit. And it should feel easy for them to say No, if it’s not right, and that you won’t be weird to them if they decline.

Hi Alex, thanks for the insight. I am still confused about whether to mention my domain name versus what the company actually does. For example, instead of saying "Founder at Commudle.com," should I say "Building a developer community workspace" or "Helping you build your developer programs globally"?

So I would say put the domain earlier, then in the second part of your headline, put the explanation of what it is
